The Next Morning

'I'm not going to class. Forget it,' Sunoo screamed at his teacher. He rushed past me, hitting my shoulder in the process. I fell to the ground with a stinging pain in my left arm. 'Are you alright?' I gasped hearing his voice. I've only heard it twice in my entire life. I looked to see Jake crouching down next to me. 'Yes, I'm fine. Thank you, your highness' He pulled me up with both hands. He scanned me up and down. 'You're Niki's servant aren't you?' I nodded, looking down at the ground. His hand slowly moved to my neck. I was ready to grab it and yank it away from me, until he gently touched my necklace. 'It's pretty.' 'Thank you.' 'So how do you two do it?' I gave him a confused look. 'What are you talking about?' 'I'm not like them, Y/N. Just remember that,' Jake whispered into my ear before walking away. 'Wait,' I said, but it was of no use. He walked away. However, I had the feeling it wouldn't be the last time we talked.

I met up with Lia in front of Niki's chambers. Madam had ordered us to clean his room and to assist him if he needed anything. Lia knocked on the door and bowed, when he opened it. 'Yah, why aren't you bowing?' It wasn't until Lia had said that to me, that I realized I hadn't bowed to Niki. It had become an habit, because he always told me he saw my as an equal. I quickly bowed and apologized for my actions. 'We're here to clean your room, your highness,' I said. Niki cringed at the name I'd called him. I knew he hated being called things like that. Just anything that ties him to his family. Especially his dad, Heeseung, Jungwon and Sunghoon. He told me the others weren't that bad if you got closer to them. 'That's fine, I have class anyway.' He grabbed his bag and then left for his private lessons. I couldn't focus on cleaning at all. I was debating whether to tell Niki about my short conversation with Jake. What if he really knows? What if he told Heeseung? I can't even imagine, how grave the punishment would be. I'm not even worried about me. I don't have an future. I'd want to die right here and now if it weren't for Niki. 'What are you worrying about that you can't even clean properly?' 'It's nothing.' She sighed. 'You know, I didn't want to ask anything even when you came to me crying you're eyes out, but it looks like it's still bothering you. It would be better for you to say it rather than bottle it up.' I nervously glanced around the room, afraid Niki would come back. I knew he was almost done with his lessons and I'd promised him to tell no one about is. 'Niki isn't abusing you, is he? Does he make you do things, you don't want to do? You can tell me, Y/N. It's nothing to be ashamed about.' I was just about to answer, when Niki came in. We both bowed. Niki stood in front of Lia. 'I don't like you prying into my personal business, Lia.' She gave me a panicked look and quickly bowed for Niki. 'I'm so sorry, your highness.' 'You're done here. Y/N can finish it up. You can report to madam what happened and explain.' A tear rolled down her cheek. She knew she was going to be punished. 'I'm sorry again, your highness.' She left the room in a hurry, leaving me alone with Niki. He angrily threw a book against the wall next to me. I flinched, when it almost hit me in the head. A tear escaped my eyes. 'What were you talking about?' Niki growled. His eyes had turned red. I took a step back from him, afraid I was going to anger him by standing too close to him. 'N-Nothing,' I stuttered. He slammed his hands in the wall next to my head, trapping my body. 'Niki, please stop. You're scaring me.' 'My brother came to see me after class, said he wanted to talk about us and how it is that you can't be compelled.' I gasped. 'Jake came to see you?' He scoffed. 'So you did know?' 'Niki, I swear I wanted to tell you but-,' 'I can't with you, Y/N' 'Niki-,' 'Don't you see I'm trying to protect you,' he yelled. His fangs started to show, which startled me because they never showed unless he was furious. 'Get out of my room,' he hissed. He took a step away, making just enough room for me to walk past him and get out of the room.

I didn't cry. Not this time. I didn't want to be that kind of girl. I had seen them in the old movies, my dad sometimes led me watch. Girls who were relied on their significant other and couldn't do anything their selves. I despised those kind of girls, which is why I stayed strong. I told madam, I finished cleaning and got the task to help out in the kitchen. I was glad, because I knew my brother was on kitchen duty. 'What's wrong?.' 'Nothing.' 'Don't lie to me.' My brother could always see right through me. 'It was just one of the princes.' Even though I was super close with my brother, I didn't tell him about Niki and me. Nobody knew except for us. 'Did one of them hurt you?' His voice tone changed. He was definitely getting angry. 'No, it wasn't like that. They were just being their usually ignorant selves.' He clutched his chest, right where his heart was. 'You almost gave me a heart-attack.' I shook my head in disappointment. 'You're always so dramatic. Just focus on chopping you're vegetables. Knowing you, you'd otherwise cut off your fingers.' He rolled his eyes. 'Get a sister they said ... it will be fun they said.' 'I hate you.' 'I hate you too.'
