Y/N's POV

A couple of weeks had gone by and it had been unrealistically quiet in the palace. Everyone was doing what they were supposed to do, well except for Sunoo but that was normal. Niki and I had spend a lot of time in the cave and he had become better at controlling himself around me. I felt more comfortable showing my skin around him and he had found herbs that could fade away the scars on my stomach. They were almost gone now, so that was a relief. My work had gone smoothly and I even got a mumble that sounded like a compliment from Ms. Kim. Niki had been teaching me the school subject he was working on. He's been doing that since we were young, because he thought it wasn't fair he was the only one who got to learn how to write and read. We were covering mathematics this week and it was going well. We were secretly studying in his room, when Jay entered. Him and Jake were the only ones who found out about our relationship. Jake had already figured it out and Jay had his suspicions, but they were confirmed when he walked in on us kissing. Niki was anxious about it at first. However, Jay had reassured him he wouldn't tell anyone. I had noticed there had been this tension between Niki and his brothers. It was weird, because it wasn't only Jungwon, Heeseung and Sunghoon, but this time also his other brothers whom he always had trusted until the incident. Every time I asked him about it he just started talking about something else. 'Do you also want some tea, Y/N?' Jay asked. I quickly stood up and bowed. 'I can get it myself, your highness. I don't want to trouble you.' He smiled at me. 'Nonsense, I already have three cups and I thought I had said to call me Jay.' I looked down at my feet. 'I don't think I feel comfortable enough doing that.' He put his hand on my shoulder and rubbed it affectionately. 'It's okay.' I reached for the tray he had in his other hand, but he put it out of my reach. 'Sit down, Y/N. I said I got.' I sat down. Niki was looking at the whole display, but didn't say a word. Jay handed me my tea and I sipped it, while glancing at Niki. 'Are you okay, Niki?' I asked. He blinked a few times before he realized I was talking to him. He smiled slightly. "Yeah, I am. Sorry about that.' He took his tea from Jay and sat down next to him. I took another sip from my tea. 'Wow, Jay. This is delicious. I've never had something like this. What's in it?' 'Just some herbs from the garden I collected.' Niki curiously looked in the cup, which was almost empty only a few drops remained. He smelled it and his gaze changed. 'What did you do?' He hissed to Jay. He grabbed the teacup and smashed it against the wall in anger. 'What are you talking about, Niki? It's just tea.' Niki scoffed. 'I should've know it was you from the beginning. You're the smartest in the family after all.' Jay furrowed his brows. 'I don't know what you're getting at, little brother,' Niki bit his lip. He always did that when he was trying to control himself. 'The herbs in her tea. What's Heeseungs plan with them?' Jay didn't reply. 'Tell me,' Niki yelled. Niki threw another cup at Jay. 'Why ask if you already know?' Jay smirked. I can't believe he was on Heeseungs side after all. Niki hurriedly came by side. 'You have to go, Y/N. Somewhere far away. Get your brother.' I was confused. He cupped my cheeks. 'Go, please,' he said almost begging me. 'Niki, what's going on?' He glanced at the tea cup I was drinking from earlier. 'They're special herbs who can enhance compelling. I think they're able to compel you now. I can't have you in danger.' I looked at the spot Jay was just standing. He disappeared, while Niki was explaining me. 'I can't leave you, Niki.' 'You have to. We won't be safe from them. Go find your brother. Explain if you need to.' He pushed me out of the room, without saying goodbye. I ran to the kitchen, where my brother was working. He gave me a confused look. 'Y/N, what's going on? Why are you in such a rush?' I tried to catch my breath. 'Run away with me brother. They're after me.' He didn't need any more explanation. He grabbed the bag we had prepared for such emergencies. 'What about dad?' I asked. 'He'll manage.' He grabbed my hand with his free hand and we ran through the hallway to the back entrance. We went through the big palace garden, which ended up in a forest. My legs were giving in, but my brother managed to drag me with him. 'Come on, sister. You can do this. Just a couple of miles.' With regained strength, I continued the journey. I glanced back, hoping to see Niki. He didn't show up. I sighed. We're on our own now. I looked at the world in front of us and gulped. There was a reason we had stayed at the palace for so long and didn't even try to escape. Apart from the chance of the royal guards coming after us it was also, because the world isn't safe anymore for humans. The streets are roaming with vampires now that they don't need to hide in the shadows anymore. I went once with Niki and we were attacked on every corner and in every alley we walked through. They backed out when they saw Niki and the royal emblem he always carried in the form of an necklace. I looked back once more. We were now about two kilometers from the palace, but we were still on it's grounds. Suddenly, I stumbled over a big branch of wood. I fell down on the ground and shaved my knee against it. I closed my eyes. There was no need to run anymore. Blood started to flow out of my skin and I prepared myself for what was to come. My brother tried to get me up on my feet and run anyways, but we were too late. They were here.
