Maybe, they had been away for too long. Perhaps they were tired and wet from the oncoming downpour. Say their attitude was solemn or irate from the previous day's affairs. Whatever it was, they were bumbling down the street and bumping into everyone they came across. They shouldn't have to get out of anyone's way.
"Someone has a problem. Can't just act like that around here," a voice carried over the buzzing crowd and tapping rain.
"That's a lot of talk for a stranger. Why not? I think I can act however I want to," they scowled.
Of course, the stranger's words made the day worse. Sure, they would blame everything to come on this person. The words ebbed them the wrong way. Why did this person think they could ruin their day? Did the lord hate them?
"Eh, you are taking my words the wrong way. I mean, look at you in the rain with no cover and an ugly expression."
Alright, now they were upset with this weirdo. Curling their fists, they lifted their head to look at them and...
"No way...Mammon?"
Surely, it wasn't possible. Rubbing their eyes, they decided to step out of the rain and move beside the man underneath a coffee shop canopy. Blinking twice, they swore it was him with the slightly messy hair, outfit style, and a lizard keychain. His attitude and speech were similar too. An alarm sounded in their head.
"Uh, that's me. I don't think we met before...unless you stalked me."
Their heart began to beat wildly.
"No, no, I read your name tag. You seem to have forgotten to take it off."
They watched as he peered down at his shirt before swearing underneath his breath. It was such a Mammon thing to do, and this scared them. Maybe they could...
"Mammon, you idiot! You forgot to turn in your...why hello?" someone puzzlingly interrupted.
"Hi," they waved to the newcomer.
"Mammon, you never said you had a new friend. Ah, look at them all dreary. Why don't you have coffee? It's on Mammon's tab."
"Oi! Look, pal, you can't just-"
"That would be nice," they replied.
Internally, they cheered, maybe now they could figure it out. Mammon would have to stay with them and talk.
"I would love to have some coffee here if Mammon accompanies me."
"What type of request is that?" Mammon asked bewildered.
"A great request. Mammon would be glad to accompany you."
Perhaps for a moment, their dreadful day fell behind them. Maybe their heart raced with fear and anticipation over coffee. Say they forgot about the rain and their soaked clothes. For, they would not get a break in any form. Even at this moment, they felt the cold but saw a flame flicker in the trenches of their soul.
"You were staring because I'm beautiful."
"Nah, you reminded me of someone actually. Which is cheesy, don't get me wrong."
"Hm...not as attractive as me though, huh?"
"Well, they're dead now..."
"Oh...ah, dammit, I always mess this up. Shit, ignore I said anything."
They smiled to themself and stuck out a hand. Well, why should they keep the secret too long?
"My name is MC, it's been a pleasure to meet you, Mammon. Hopefully, we can get to know each other more. Thank you for the coffee."
Yeah, they weren't going to be alright for a long time. Except for this time, the angels helped them out by giving them another chance. The brothers couldn't escape again.
