To grasp a dying thing

"When I woke up, I wasn't expecting you."

The space vibrated in laughter.

"Well, waking up is an understatement, yes? You haven't woken up to anything."

A grin stretched itself within their vision as a body slowly formed. She was not who they were expecting. They weren't expecting anyone.

"We've talked before, Lilith."

Her body broke into a rhythmic laugh as a room flickered into view. Their conversation barely counted as a conversation. If two-lines and one-sided counted for a partner chat.

"I know a lot more about you now. Which is why I must ask that I leave."

They shifted as Lilith's face fell.

"Oh, you know a lot more? So, you want to leave because of that. Perhaps, if you were ignorant you would talk with me. That came off quite rude, didn't it? I don't understand. We're blood."

"Which is why I must go."

"You're not making sense."

Closing their eyes, they counted down from five.

"Lilith, I acknowledge we are related but I feel a bit weird about this. I also feel bad. Did you bring me here? Wherever this is?"

She stepped back and walked toward the frozen room. A frown settling upon her face before she wiped it off with a small smile.

"How could I bring you to a place outside your head? Surely, you remember my room?"

A light flashed before them and made them shield their eyes. Blinking, they noticed the entire space--once empty and glitching--had been merged into a version of her room. Except the white cloths that covered the furniture had been removed and two photos of them and her had been added by the bed.

They felt like a mouse wandering into a lion's den. The lion starved, bored or irate may pounce but they never knew when.

"You're anxious?"

"You aren't exactly..."

"Exactly?"

"As kind as the brothers said you are-were."

"Things change when they shouldn't have."

That caught their attention. Perhaps, they could ignore the fear of death for a moment.

"Shouldn't have?"

Her lips twitched in sad amusement.

"I could've lived."

"You did live. Well, Diavolo turned you into a human but..."

"I could've stayed an Angel."

Their eyes drifted over to the photos.

"Diavolo said..."

"There are Angels who reside in the Devildom? They breathe the Devildom air, correct?"

"...well, yeah, but..."

"So, why couldn't I have survived? Why was that his reasoning?"

They swallowed as she stood.

"Lucifer didn't know what else to do. I don't know why Diavolo said that besides the fact you were injured."

"Then he should've let me die."

Their shoulders slumped in recognition and shook their head. This could not be the conversation they were dreaming about...or unconsciously apart of. They needed to wake up.

"You can't say things like that."

She sighed and paced the room.

"Why not?"

"Because of Lucifer. He had to make a deal with Diavolo."

"No he didn't, he needed to let me go. Everyone needs to let me go."

She stood in front of them and placed her hands upon their shoulders.

"You can't tell me they don't see me in you. They still see parts of you as Lilith. That's not how anyone should go. I spent all those years living without my brothers because some demon needed Lucifer to serve him. Dying would've been better than living with the memory that I lived decades without them. It's time everyone moves on."

Looking in their eyes she smiled and nodded behind them.

"It's time you move on as well."

Neither of them noticed as her photo faded away.
