The end of the year was upon them. In term, MC would be sent back to the human world to wander the streets. With this thought looming like a dark cloud, the whole house continued at a slower pace.
The fire crackled in the den, dust swayed upon the library floor, the kitchen laid messy, and each room emptied, except, for the dining table. Each seat held its designated demon with the exception of Belphie who still wandered the halls. A Christmas eve night settled upon the room with not even a mouse.
Forks clattered against the porcelain plates and glasses shifted to the right.
"It is that time of the year. I assume you all will have to find another until I return." They said with a shake of their head.
"Ah, no one can replace you. Why would you say something like that?" Asmo exclaimed in surprise.
"I'm not asking you to replace me just to get another therapist for the time being. I know that Simeon, Luke, and especially Solomon won't do any good."
Each member blinked at the words. A brief flash of confusion eroded the daze of gloominess.
"Therapist? What are you going on about? Geez, sometimes you say the weirdest things," Mammon sighed.
MC brought their eyes up to meet his. They chewed on their bottom lip as they pondered their response. Surely, the brothers would've noticed at least. However, they are quite dense, MC thought.
"I am human after all."
"That's true...hey! Don't try to move past this. Tell me-us what you mean," Mammon cried out.
"Haven't you noticed, yet? Not to be un-humble, but I'm practically the glue holding this family together. I've solved a majority of your family issues since my stay," MC replied. "Therefore, until I return, you will need to get a new therapist."
"Today was already depressing and now you made it worse," Belphie sighed.
"Its what I do," MC grinned.
"Yeah, well, you need to stop," Mammon complained.
MC pondered to themself as they looked around the table. Perhaps, this was not a good time but also a good time to mention it. Of course, jumping them with the thought before they got ditched in another realm wouldn't be appropriate. However, that idea did fit them based upon previous actions.
"I'm going to ruin the rest of breakfast but I have to clear this up. Ok? I still have this pulsing feeling that you guys only like me because I'm related to Lilith," They said quickly.
Their prediction was correct: they did ruin breakfast. Except, no one should've been this surprised considering they already had to reassure MC multiple times.
"What are you on about? That's not true," Mammon gaped.
"I agree with Mammon. We like you for you, MC," Beel replied.
"I...I mean you are related to Lilith and that's great but we don't just like you for that. Even before we knew that...uh...never mind...why would you listen to an Otaku like me. You normies," Levi tried to defend.
MC laughed before taking a bite of food.
"You all are very sweet. However, I'm specifically targeting Belphie and Lucifer."
"I already told you, MC. I would be with you even if you weren't related to Lilith," Belphie sighed.
"After you killed a version of me," MC grumbled, "and you didn't even know I was related then. Then you tried to kill me a second time but then you found out and wouldn't leave my side. You clung. Buy me a pizza and you can make it up to me."
"I have no understanding of what you are implying. My actions have not changed," Lucifer implored.
"You barely tried to kill me or really lost your temper. The other Lucifer tried to kill me and was never really close to me but maybe you are different. I don't know...forget it. It was a stupid idea."
That's right, no one in this world was similar to the others. The Belphie in the previous world didn't kill them; but, at the same time- Mammon acts the same. They were starting to believe they ruined breakfast for nothing.
"You know...let's focus on the part about me leaving today and forget everything else."
"Your concern is valid, MC. Even if its a little misplaced but maybe some lotion or a bath will help," Asmo tried.
"Maybe, but you all owe me one for everything. Especially about Lilith."
