"Where are you going?" Dream halted as someone called out to him and froze, turning around slowly.

"Just going on a walk," Dream lied. George's amber eyes glistened in the moonlight and Dream knew his best friend was well aware he was lying.

"Dream," George said. "Where are you going?" Dream hesitated as George asked again.

"Into the Woods," Dream said.

"Where into the woods?" George asked, tilting his head.

"Deep into the woods,"

"How deep?"

"Pretty deep,"

"Specifically, though,"

"By a tree,"

"Which tree,"

"An oak,"

"Which oak," Dream was surprised by George's patience, and eventually he gave in.

"I'm going to negotiate," He sighed after a moment.

"To who, about what?" George asked, walking forward.

"The dragon keeper," Dream muttered. "I'm trying to get the cure to save our friends,"

"I'm coming with you," George said determinedly.

"No- it's too dangerous," Dream said quickly.

"Then you have to let me come," George said. He was already holding an iron sword and Dream gritted his teeth. "I'm your best friend,"

"That's why I don't want you to come," Dream said.

"What, because you don't want me to get hurt?" George scoffed. Dream hesitated. No. I don't want you to be there for my plan.

"You can't come," Dream repeated.

"Why?" George demanded. "You can't stop me from following you!"

"George, please," Dream hissed. George stared at him for a moment.

"Wait- what are you planning?" George asked, his eyes widening. "Dream, what's going on, you don't act this way unless somethings up," Dream cursed silently that George knew him so well and walked closer to his friend.

"George," He started slowly. "The only way I can save everyone is if I trade myself for the cure-"

"No!" George snapped. "That's not the only way, you idiot!"

"It's the only sure way," Dream corrected firmly, gripping his friend's shoulders tightly. "Let me go, George. Let me save everyone,"

"Is this- are you just trying to be a hero?" George hissed, shaking his head. "Good things don't happen to heroes,"

"Don't be a Technoblade," Dream growled.

"It's true!" George snapped. "The hero always loses,"

"No the good guys always win, haven't you ever heard that?"

"Heroes might win battles, but they always lose something, whether it's their parents, their siblings, their friends..." George trailed off.

"I'm not losing you," Dream said determinedly. "I'm willing to lose it all to save my friends, so hate me for being a hero but someone's gotta do it,"

"Let me do it then," George hissed.

"Did I stutter? I'm not losing you!" Dream snapped. "You're my best friend, and I lost you once- I can't do it again, never again," Dream's voice was filled with pain as he stared into George's amber eyes. Those eyes were the same eyes he'd once thought would never look at him again, and here George was, staring at him. "And Technoblade deserves better than this, he deserves to be happy,"

"I can't let you go alone," George hissed. "I'd never forgive myself if I knew that it could have been me, not you,"

"Let me go," Dream said, moonlight reflecting off his pale face and emerald eyes. "Please," George's own eyes glistened and he opened his mouth to say something but not a single word came out. "You don't have to say anything," Dream said again, moving forward and giving his old friend a tight hug. George returned it at once and let out a huff of sorrow. Neither of them said a word, neither having to, until Dream released George and backed away. "Goodbye," He muttered, holding his friend's gaze a moment longer before vanishing into the forest.

It hurt knowing Dream probably wouldn't see George again and part of him wanted to turn around and think of something else, but right now he needed to be the hero. No matter the cost. He needed to save his friends and all the people that would, in the future, get sick.

"Hey, dragon man," Dream called. He was standing in the same place he had been only a day ago, hoping the dragon keeper would be there, or at least near there. "I've come to bargain," There was silence for a moment before Dream heard a low growl and froze as Jean, the ender Dragon, paced forward. After a closer look, Dream realized that there was a man sitting on her shoulders, holding onto two black spikes for balance.

"It's just you, then?" The man hissed. Dream nodded.

"I don't have any weapons," He added.

"Prove it," The man growled. Dream held up his hands and turned in a slow circle, revealing that he only had a lime sweatshirt on. After a moment Dream gasped as something slammed into him and he was forced to the ground by what must have been one of Jean's massive paws. He hissed but allowed her to sniff him until she got off and yanked him to his feet roughly. "Alright..." The man said, sliding off Jean and landing on the ground beside her. "What do you want, green man,"

"I want the cure for my friends," Dream said.

"And what do you have to offer me?" Dream sighed and opened his mouth to answer, but before he could someone else spoke up.

"Me," Dream whipped around and spotted the one person he hadn't wanted to be here with him.

"And who are you exactly?" The dragon keeper asked, tilting his head. The newcomer looked at Dream and gave him a long look.

"George,"
