Melanie Barrett, not new to town and everyone knows this. Everyone has seen her walk down the halls of the school and everyone has seen her hang around the Duskers. Now what if her friends have a deep secret and she becomes a part of it?

Melanie woke up and immediately saw darkness. "Come on." Sarah says as she turns the lights on and opens Melanie's closet. "Here." Sarah says setting out an outfit consisting of a leather jacket, a white short sleeved turtle neck, a pair of jeans, and some boots. "Huh." Melanie says as she goes to the bathroom and gets changed. She then puts some sunblock on her face and grabs a pair of sunglasses.
"How's this?" Melanie questions as she spins around. "Perfect, come on." Sarah says as she grabs Melanie's hand and walks downstairs. "Here!" Bex shouts as she tosses Melanie her lunch bag. "Thanks Aunt Bex." Melanie says as she kisses her aunt's cheek. "See ya Bex!" Sarah exclaims as they walk out. They walk towards the school, walking in. "See ya Mel." Sarah says. "Bye Sarah." Melanie says as she walks into her English class.
She set her bag down and moved her sunglasses to the top of her head. She turns and sees Rory watching her causing her to smirk, her fangs showing a bit. Rory's eyes widened as he looked at her new appearance. "Wow." Rory mouths as he looks down at his notes.
Once class was over he felt a tug at his wrist. "Hey, I'm sorry about the whole...you know." Melanie says as she motions to her neck. "No worries, it was cool, the becoming a vampire not the you know." Rory says becoming awkward. "I get it." She says as she smiles. She turns and sees Sarah motioning her over. "See you later Rory." She says as she waves at him and rushes over to Sarah.
"You doing okay?" Sarah questions causing Melanie to nod. "I just need something to drink." Melanie says as she goes into her bag and pulls out a small container. "What's that?" Sarah questions. "Not too sure." Melanie says as she takes a sip, an iron taste filling her mouth causing her to grimace, but blink. "It's pretty good." She says as she continues drinking it.
It was after school. Sarah and Melanie were walking out of the school, their heads down and their sunglasses on. "Come on." Sarah says as she grabs Melanie's hand and uses her speed to make it to the cemetery. "Hey." Sarah and Melanie say as they look and see Benny and Ethan looking at the group of vampires digging up something.
"Ah!" Ethan and Benny say looking a bit scared. "Looking good." Benny says to both of them. "What are you doing here?" Ethan questions. "Same as you. We're following them. I just wish I knew what they were up to." Sarah says. "Well, according to Rory, they're after the "Cuban animals." Benny says as he laughs. "Cuban animals? You mean cubile animus? I've heard Jesse mention it before. I think it's Latin or something." Sarah says. "Wikipedia says that cubile animus is Latin for "nest of souls."" Benny says holding his phone. "Oh that's just great." Melanie says.
"I think I just saw it. This little box with weird carvings on it." Ethan says. "A box? Like that one?" Sarah questions pointing at the vampires holding up a box. "The cubile animus. Great. Nest of souls. How long till something hatches?" Benny questions. "We have to stop them." Ethan says. "Heh. We've got a fresh supply of anti-vampire juice." Benny says as he turns holding the jug, accidentally spilling some on Melanie and Sarah. "Ow!" Sarah and Melanie exclaim. "What the heck?!" Sarah exclaims causing the vampires to turn to them.
Thankfully they ran off and away from the cemetery. "So What's with these "visions"? You get them often?" Sarah questions as they run down the hill. "No. They started when you showed up. It's like, a door opens to a whole other dimension or something. I think it happens when we touch. Here." Ethan says going to grab Sarah's hand. "Nice try, Casanova." Sarah says as she moves her hand away. "Can't blame a player for trying. But maybe I'd get visions, too-" Benny says as he goes to grab Sarah's hand. "Cut it out!" Ethan exclaims. "Sorry." Benny says. "You don't get visions." Ethan says. "And if I see that hand again, I'll consider it a snack." Sarah says causing Melanie to chuckle from next to her. "So Jesse never told either of you what the prophecy is? Or what 219 means?" Ethan questions. "I'm just a fledgling, remember? He'd only tell a real vampire. Plus Mel only just became a vampire so she couldn't know." Sarah says. "None of them are dumb enough to just tell us." Benny says. "Well one of them is." And I have his number." Benny says causing Melanie to smile realizing who they meant.
It was later in the day, thankfully it was night so Melanie just walked over, a hoodie and jeans on. Jane let the girls in and walked upstairs. "Uh got it!" They hear Ethan say. Sarah clears her throat causing Ethan's mom and Ethan's attention to divert to the two girls. "Oh! Look who's here, and who's this?" Ethan's mom questions. "I'm Melanie, Ethan and Sarah's friend." Melanie says as she holds her hand out. "Well it's very nice to meet you." Ethan's Mom says. "I, uh, brought that book, the one you said you wanted to borrow." Sarah says.
"Yeah! The book, right." Ethan says as Sarah holds the book up. "Wow, isn't that nice." Ethan's Mom says. "Thank you." Ethan says. "Yeah, the kids can't wait for you to babysit again." Ethan's Mom says. "Mom." Ethan says. "I guess you made quite an impression." Ethan's Mom says causing the girls to laugh. "Mom." Ethan says. "Okay, well, I guess I'll leave you three alone." Ethan's Mom says as she stands. "You know, there's milk and cookies in the kitchen, if you feel like." Ethan's mom says causing Melanie to nod. "May I?" She questions. "Of course." Ethan's Mom says as they go downstairs.
She walks back up, a cookie in her mouth, and another in her hand. Just as she walks in she sees Rory on the ground. "Hey Rory." She says as she smiles, the cookie muffling her speech. "Hey Melanie." Rory says as he stands up. "Rory, we need you to help us figure out what Jesse is planning." Sarah says. "Uh yeah, he's not a high school kid; he's a cult leader from over 200 years ago." Ethan says causing Melanie to choke on her cookie. Rory pats her back causing her to smile at him gratefully.
"No way!" Rory says. "Wait 'till I tell him." Rory says causing Sarah and Ethan to shake their head. "Rory! No! He already knows, okay? And it's not cool. Unless we stop him a lot of people could die, including us." Ethan says. Rory looks down, then looks back up at them. "Stinks not being immortal." Rory says causing Melanie to lightly slap his chest. "His plan has something to do with a prophecy. Maybe you could check his library?" Sarah questions. "Yeah we need details and fast okay? And find out what the cubile animus thing is for." Ethan says.
"Okay, that was a let down. It's just some crusty old box. But Jesse's happy, so." Rory says. "Ethan! Dinner is coming in!" Ethan's mom exclaims. "Um, she can't see you okay? You gotta go." Ethan says to Rory. Ethan's Mom walks in but Sarah distracts her. "I was just leaving. Do you need me to babysit on Friday?" Sarah questions as Melanie and Rory go out the window. Melanie just hops down, but Rory floats for a bit. She notices he was going to fall so she holds her arms out and catches him. "Thanks." Rory says as she lets him down.
"Wanna come over?" She questions causing Rory to start nodding quickly. "I mean, yeah, that's cool." Rory says causing Melanie to smile. "Come on." She says as she grabs his hand and walks, him in a dazed state follows behind her. She feels her arm move up causing her to turn and see Rory floating in the air. "Ror, you okay?" She questions causing Rory to snap out of his dazed state and for him to float down. She walks in the house and sees Bex drinking something from a mug.
"Hey Aunt Bex." She says as she shuts the door. "Hey Mel and Mel's friend..." Bex says as she quickly sets her cup of 'coffee' down. "You can show her." Melanie says causing Rory to show his golden eyes and fangs. Bex raises a brow and smirks. "That was supposed to impress me?" Bex questions as she roars, her fangs showing and her eyes glistening red. "Wow." Rory says. "Yeah, I know." Bex says as she smirks.
"Don't do anything I would do." Bex says causing Melanie to laugh as she walks upstairs. Rory trails behind her. "You know I really want to thank you, you're really helping our case a lot." She says as she smiles. "It's not trouble, it's worth it to see a girl like you smile." He says causing Melanie to smile and look down. "Thanks Rory." She says. "Hey, I have an idea." Rory says causing Melanie to smile. "And that would be?" Melanie questions. "When all this mess is over we can binge watch Star Wars." Rory says raising his eyebrows.
"Considering we don't need sleep, sure!" Melanie says. "But one one condition." She says holding one finger up. "And that would be?" Rory questions. "You have got to teach me how to fly." She says causing Rory to laugh. "Deal!" He says, a smile on his face.
