Melanie Barrett, not new to town and everyone knows this. Everyone has seen her walk down the halls of the school and everyone has seen her hang around the Duskers. Now what if her friends have a deep secret and she becomes a part of it?

Melanie hopped off Bex's bike. "Stay safe kiddo." Bex says as she sends a two fingers salute to her. "See ya Aunt Bex." Melanie says as she walks over. "Finally." Sarah says as she drags Melanie into the house. "Here." Sarah says as she hands Melanie a fudgesicle. "Thanks." Melanie says as she sees the smaller girl. "Hi, I'm Jane." The girls says holding her hand out. "Melanie." She says shaking the girl's hand. Sarah then rushes into what she could only assume was the bathroom.
Jane then grabs Melanie's hand. "Come on." Jane says as they go and watch the movie. After a few moments she stood up and walked towards the kitchen. "Where'd Sarah go?" Melanie questions. "Oh hey, um she went out." Ethan says. "Yep, and we're going after her." Benny says. "Are you guys forgetting something?" Melanie questions causing Jane to walk over. "Yeah. What are you forgetting?" Jane questions.
Benny ended up calling his Grandma, who ended up being there. "Thanks, Grandma! You're a lifesaver." Benny says as the woman walks in. "Any time, dear." The woman says. "She smells funny." Jane says from in between Melanie and Ethan. "No, she doesn't." Melanie and Ethan say. "She smells nice." Melanie says. "Like flowers...and mothballs." Ethan says. "You have any jackets?" Melanie questions causing Benny to toss her a denim jacket. "Thanks." She says as she slips it on.
"All right, now if the pizza isn't here in 26 minutes, you do not pay a dime." Benny says to his Grandma to nods. "Okay, we um. We will be right back I promise." Ethan says. "I hate being eight." Jane whines causing Melanie to pat her head and walk out the door.
The trio walked into the night, Benny kept lagging behind. "What is all that stuff?" Melanie questions as another piece of equipment falls over. "Digicams with night vision infrared. You can't possibly expect us to investigate the supernatural realm without the proper equipment!" Benny exclaims. "Fine! Just keep it on the down-low okay? She already thinks I'm a perv." Ethan says causing Melanie to turn to him. "What made her think that?" She questions. "Nothing." Ethan immediately says.
"You said her reflection wasn't all there right?" Benny questions. "Yeah." Ethan says. "Here's a thought: What if this is all some publicity stunt for that stupid Dusk movie? If this is a punk, I knew it all along!" Benny says shouting the last part. "Benny shh!" Ethan exclaims. "Come on." Melanie says as she walks in front of them.
"I think she was headed towards town." Ethan says causing them to continue walking until they reached town. It was dark and empty, now exactly a place Melanie wanted to be. "It's hopeless. We lost her." Benny says, his night vision goggles over his eyes. "Must. Have. Pizza." Benny says. "She's out here. I feel it." Ethan says. "What?" Melanie and Benny question as they look at him as if he were crazy.
Suddenly there is a clattering in the distance. Melanie rushes over, Benny and Ethan following. They made it to the entrance of the alley, the clattering getting louder. "Shh." Ethan says. "There's something in the alley." Melanie says. "Night vision, engaged." Benny says, but he stops as his face contorts into one of discomfort and horror. "What? Benny what?" Ethan questions after Benny stays silent. "Fine, I'll just." Melanie starts but Benny blocks her way. "We should leave, right now." Benny says. "Why?" Ethan questions as he holds the camera, Melanie looking over his shoulder.
They see Sarah holding a rat, about to pierce it's skin with her canines overgrown...just like a vampire. "Ahh!" The trio screams causing Sarah to roar. They run away, well they had to run back to get Benny. "We are so dead!" Ethan shouts from behind Melanie. "Speak for yourself!" Melanie exclaims. "Skinny guy coming through! Warp nine!" Benny shouts. "Help! My babysitter's a Vampire!" Ethan shouts as they turn a corner.
"Remember Halo level three? The battle plan I sent you? Evasive maneuvers. Alpha Phi strike Delata Six. Engage!" Benny shouts, but it backfired causing him to back roll off a round looking statue. Ethan and Melanie rush over leaning against the statue. "You missed the pattern." Benny wheezes. "Sometimes I just skim your emails." Ethan wheezes back. "Fair enough." Benny says as Melanie and Ethan help him up. "What's your problem?" Sarah questions causing Melanie and the boys so scream and hold onto each other.
"Just hold on! If you eat us, that would so not be cool." Ethan stutters. "If I wanted to eat you, I would have done it by now." Sarah says causing Melanie to shrug. "See? She's going to eat us! We're doomed!" Benny exclaims. "No, no, no,. I just want to talk to you guys!" Sarah exclaims but Ethan grabbed two sticks and turned them into a cross. "Demon of the night, be gone!" Ethan exclaims as Melanie walks over to where Sarah was.
"Guys, whatever you saw, it's not what it looks like." Sarah says. "You're a freakin' vampire who eats animals and drinks their blood!" Ethan says. "Okay, so it is kind of what it looks like but-" Sara was cut off by Benny. "I'm warning you, I had garlic bread for lunch, and I'm not afraid to use my breath." He says.
"Would you both just shut up? She's just a normal girl, okay?" Melanie says. "At least I was until I got bit by my crummy ex-boyfriend. I'm technically still a fledgling until I drink human blood, which I don't really want to do, so I have to figure out how to stop this thing before my mortal body dies, or at least stop it from happening to more people like Erica." Sarah says. "Wait Erica?" Melanie questions causing Sarah to nod.
"So you're sure this isn't some stupid thing for that Dusk movie?" Benny questions. "I wish. Come on. Let's get out of here. I'm not the only one feeding tonight. I'll take you three home, and if I'm lucky, I'll find Erica before it's too late." Sarah says leading them back to Ethan's house.
Once they made it back they saw Jane sat on the arm of the chair while Benny's Grandma was passed out on the chair. "ABout time! I'm so bored, Grandma passed out five songs ago, and she has like zero boom-boom-pow. Can we pleease play now?" Jane questions Sarah and Melanie. "Sorry, I've gotta go. Just be careful okay? And don't tell anyone about you know." Sarah says causing the trio to nod.
"Uh yeah sure, I'm cool. And nobody believes anything Benny says anyways." Ethan says causing Benny to nod in agreement. "I'm serious, okay? And whatever you do, do not invite a vampire into your house. It's your only safe haven." Sarah says causing the trio to nod. Stay safe Sarah." Melanie says as she hugs her friend close. "I will Mel, I promise." Sarah says as she leaves. Suddenly the doorbell rings. "Oh, man. The pizza dude is so late. Bonus!" Benny exclaims. "Benny I don't think-" She stops as Benny invites the Pizza guy inside.
"Sorry dude but I am just dying for a bite." Benny says as he goes for a pizza slice. "So am I." The pizza guy says causing everyone to turn to the guy and scream as he roars at them. Jane hugs her brother close and whimpers. "Jane, it's okay. He's just playing a game, you know?" Ethan questions trying to keep his sister calm. "Yeah, a game. Whoever tells me where Sarah is spends less time screaming." The guy says. "Can I play too?" Sarah questions as she appears in front of them. "Yes." Benny and Ethan say as the Fledgling and full vampire have a staredown.
