"Doug.. Doug, come on. Wake up" Doug groaned, rolling over in his sleeping bag as he tried in vain to go back to alseep-- only to be shaken awake. The sleepy 10 year old swatted at the person as he pulled away from them, irate as he rooted around for his glasses. Even though Doug couldn't see the person who had waken him, he had a pretty good idea of who he would see. Chad.

He and Jane had been invited over for a sleepover by Chad and his parents, and since they were sleeping in his room, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to assume he was the one responsible for tearing him away from his beloved sleep.

And sure enough, he was proven right when he slipped on his glasses and found his princely friend kneeling beside him.

Unsurprisingly, Jane was already wide awake and sitting up in her sleeping bag-- of course he woke Jane first. She was usually the 1st to go along with whatever half brained scheme their friend came up with and got him to go along with it.

'Well, not tonight!' Doug thought stubbornly, gripping the top of his covers. "Ugh, go back to sleep guys. It's too late for this"

"But Doug, I found something cool I want to show you guys!" The older boy whined quietly. "Plus we're all already awake, so why not go now ?"

Jane bit her lip, fiddling with the end of her nightgown. "He does make a good point, Dougie"

the spectacled boy bite back a groan, starting to lose all patience. "Not when he's the reason we're even awake right now, he doesn't. Now go back to bed"

"but--" Chad made a move to protest, only to he cut off by his sleep deprived bestfriend.

"No buts! Nothing you say or do will make me leave this bed before daylight!"

"I hate you both so much right now "
Doug told his friends with crossed arms and a scowl on his face.

Not that they could see it, seeing as he was currently draped over Chad's shoulder and unable to escape the boy's grip as he lead him and Jane towards-- the abandoned stables?

"Sure you do" Chad said, rolling his eyes as he sat his friend and latern down so that he could unlock the door.

Jane gave her cousin a sheepish look, holding the bag Chad had asked her to grab before they had snuck out of the castle and muttered "sorry..."

"what are we even doing out here? It's freezing!" Doug hissed, still feeling pissed that Chad had woken him up at 1 in the morning without giving them both a good reason -- not to mention the fact that he felt absolutely humiliated that Chad was able to pick him up and carey him so effortlessly all the way to the stables when he had refused to leave the castle.

"I already told you guys. I found something interesting in the woods that I wanted to show you" the prince reminded sounding exasperated as if he had been the inconvenienced one here
-- something that only served to piss Doug off more.

"And it couldn't have waited until morning?" The half dwarf asked, pushing himself up at last and dusting himself off.

"No, because then someone would see us and that can't happen" the prince replied, more serious than they had ever heard him as he stuck the lock in his pocket.
