In one realm, Maleficent 'Mal' Bertha Faery was born on the isle of the lost to the mistress of all evil, Maleficent, and the God of the Underworld, Hades.
Hades split not long after her birth and moved to the other side of the isle-into a cave of some sort. He had nothing to do with her upbringing, leaving it all to his cruel and ruthless ex who had little love in her heart for anyone but herself.
She was cold to everyone-even her own daughter-and despised all forms of weakness, love, and kindness. Which caused said daughter a world of hurt as she grew up.
Mal was manipulated and emotionally (and verbally) abused constantly as her mother kept her away from her little brother, Hadie, and did everything in her power to mold her into a min-version of herself-something Mal thought for the longest time she wanted.
Because of this and a deep-rooted yearning for love and approval from her mother-the only family she had access to-Mal would go on to do horrible things in her early years.
Destroying Mad Maddy's hair and dolls.
Dumping shrimp over Uma's head.
Getting Evie banished for 10 years, then trying to maim her, and then trying to trick her into a sleeping curse before she changed her mind at the last moment.
Among other things that she would come to regret after she was taken to Auradon with her three best friends
Things that she would continue to do as she struggled to become a better person-like drugging Ben with a love potion, manipulating Jane, and lying about her magic use (once again among other things)-and get her happy ending.
Which Mal eventually did, with her marrying Ben nearly 3 years after she came to Auradon with her father and 2 of her best friends present, which was more than she ever thought she'd get.
Meanwhile, In the other realm, an identical little demigoddess was born free to dragon sorceress, Maleficent, and the God of the underworld, Hades. Her name was Malvina Bertha Fay and she was born with fire running through her veins, and a roar that shook the trees. She had wavy, dark purple hair and striking green eyes that glowed when she used magic.
Just like her counterpart.
But unlike her counterpart, Malvina grew up with both her parents and her little brother, Hadie (who was 8 years younger than her), in her life and didn't have villainy forced onto her from a young age.
Instead, she was encouraged to herself-creative, sarcastic, and mischievous, and kind to a degree. Which shaped this version of Mal into a kind and intelligent, headstrong young lady who knew what she wanted in life.
Which was to get out into the world and make her vision (in art) known, and make the lifelong friends her parents had always lamented about wanting themselves both when they still lived together and after they split up.
Luckily, they were both good at co-parenting since they both genuinely cared about her and her brother, never splitting them up when alternating who and where they would be staying with at whatever time of the year. Which Mal recognized as an extremely rare and good thing even at the tender age of 14.
