There was my beautiful little girl, leaning over the toy box searching for a doll. I can't believe she's three years old, she's getting so big. I smiled, remembering the first time she was put in my arms. I was scared and nervous, but then I looked into her eyes. They were full of curiosity and wonder. I smiled at her, thinking, "I created this. This precious little girl is mine." Then a wave of strength, excitement, and pure happiness washed over me as I heard her giggle for the first time.
I was snapped out of my thoughts by my daughter climbing into my lap. She held a small doll with red, curly hair that rested above her shoulders and blue eyes wearing a light blue dress. "Isn't she pretty, Daddy?" she asked me. "Very," I answered her honestly, "But not quite as pretty as you." I nuzzled my nose into her cheek, knowing it tickled her. She was squealing and giggling a she tried to squirm out of my grip. I laughed, pulling her back onto my lap. I looked into her beautiful blue-green eyes and kissed her small nose, then her rosy cheek.
"Sir?" I looked up to see a nurse standing before me. "You're needed in the delivery room. It's time," she explained. My eyes widened as I stood up quickly, my little girl cradled in my arms. I set her down on my best mate's lap. "Call the boys," I whispered to him, "It's time." I began to walk away when I heard a small voice cry out. "Daddy?" I turned around to see a look of worry on my daughter's face. "Is Mommy okay?" I smiled softly at her and simply said, "Mommy's fine, I'll be right back," before I walked through the double doors to follow the nurse.
*LATER*
I pushed the door open, my hand still sore from the tight grip my wife had on it not long ago. I appeared back in the waiting room to see all of my best mates, or family, talking to and playing with my daughter. Her eyes finally met mine and she smiled as I held my hand out to her. "Come with me. There's someone Mommy and I want you to meet," I told her sweetly. She placed her small hand in mine as we walked through the double doors, with her uncles trailing behind us in excitement. I opened the door and led everyone over to the bed my wife was laying on. She gave me a weary smile and handed me small bundle of blankets. I happily took it and walked over to a chair to sit, where my daughter followed. She looked into the blankets to see a small baby. "Say hello to your new brother," I smiled. She gave a big grin and held her finger out to him, whispering, "Hello!" His eyes shot open and he smiled, carefully wrapping his small hand around her finger, and giggled for the first time.
