Meredith looks at George and then back at the woman who is still standing in front of her. "I'm sorry, didn't you know?" She asks now. Meredith looks around at a loss. "No, we didn't know!" She replies shaken. "Is that safe? I mean that Mrs. O'Malley died? "Meredith now wants to know. "Yes I think so! That's what the sons told me! May I ask who you are? "Now George takes a step forward. "I'm one of the sons!" He answers in a trembling voice. He can't believe what he's hearing. "But I thought there were two sons?" The woman asks in astonishment. "No, he's the youngest here!" Replies Meredith. "Can you reach the other brothers anywhere? Do you have an address or phone number? "Asks Meredith. "So if he's the brother of the two, should he know where the two are?" She replies. "It's a long story and very personal, so you know where the O'Malley brothers are now, don't you?" Meredith asks a little annoyed. She is upset about the woman's last statement. After all, it's none of their business why they're asking for an address! And she wants everything to be cleared up as quickly as possible. Because she can see how difficult it is for George to pull himself together. His shiny, trembling eyes betray him.

And she takes pity on him. She still knows exactly how he fared after the death of his father and now it is all over again, with his mother. She is now reproaching herself if it was so good to get him out of the safety of the home. Here he is only confronted with new hard facts, facts that cause him pain again. "I already have a phone number from back then, but I don't know if it is still valid and if I can pass it on!" Finally she says. "Believe me, you may!" Replies Meredith. George stands frozen next to her and doesn't say a word. He's completely nervous. His mother is said to have died and his brothers sold the house! The house where they grew up. He does not understand this and is close to despair. "Well, wait a moment!" The woman replies and goes back into the house. After a while she comes back and hands Meredith a small piece of paper. "Here! But don't say you got the phone number from me. I don't want any trouble! "She says harshly. "I see!" Meredith nods and takes the note. She takes a quick look at it and puts it in her pocket. The woman closes the door behind her and Meredith and George finally go back to the car. When George opens the garden gate, he holds it for a few minutes as if he doesn't want to leave. He takes a deep breath and looks back again. Despair is written on his face. The sad stump looks like a memorial.

Where mother's roses once stood is now a bare surface. He feels a wistful pain. He'll never forgive himself for leaving. He hangs his head and struggles for composure. Meredith is already at the car and looks at him. "George!" She calls him in a soft voice. "Are you coming? Let's go! "She says and looks at him understandingly. He turns back to Meredith. He sits in the car and looks silent straight. Meredith takes the small note out of her pocket and shows it to George. "Do you know this number?" She asks him. He looks straight ahead and doesn't respond. But after a few minutes he looks at the piece of paper that she is still holding in front of him. He shakes his head slightly. "No, I don't know!" He says listlessly and stares through the windshield in front of him again. "All right. Let's see who answers the phone! "She says and takes her cell phone out of her handbag. "Should I call?" Now she asks him.

He closes his eyes and nods. Then she dials the number on the slip. It rings for a long time before a woman's voice finally answers. "Yes?" Meredith is surprised. "My name is Dr. Grey! "She begins to imagine. "Can I speak to Mr. O'Malley?" She asks. "It's in the workshop right now. Can I tell him something? "Meredith looks at George. "Yes. Please tell him he wants to call me back! Meredith Grey is my name. The number should appear on your display. He should only call me on this number. It is very important!" She says insistently. "Something happened? Is someone hurt? "The woman on the other end of the line wants to know. "No, nobody's hurt!" Meredith replies. "On the contrary!" She adds and smiles. "Please tell him to call me anyway. No matter what time! "Emphasizes her. "I'll tell him!" The woman replies in a confused voice. Then Meredith hangs up. Both now look at each other in silence. Meredith puts her hand on his shoulder. "It will be fine!" She tries to encourage him. "My mom is dead. What is going to happen there?" He asks inwardly. "Are you doing me a favor?" He looks at Meredith with sad eyes. "Are you going to the cemetery with me?" He asks. Meredith nods. "Sure!" She answers and starts the engine. "Buckle up!" She says, looking at George with raised eyebrows.
