Chapter 10

Imagine my surprise on Monday when I saw Sa'ad waiting for me outside. I knew daddy was long gone so what was he still doing here?

"Already bored of daddy?" I asked jokingly and he shook his head with laughter, revealing his dimples. His dimples reminded me of Hauwa'u, you cannot deny the blood resemblance they have and that automatically made me swallow any joke I had left in me.

"I think he believes I'm going to bore him, that's why I was asked to work with you for one more week."

"But I'm fine, I can take care of myself."

He held up his hands in mock surrender and circled the car to open the back door for me, "I'm just simply following orders, ma'am."

"You sound awfully chipper." I stared at him suspiciously before getting into the car and he stood there with a smile on his face. "Is it the engagement?"

His smile turned into a tight one and he rolled his eyes before closing my door and going round to the driver's seat. He asked me where we were headed to and I told him, then we rode in a deafening silence.

After he dropped me, I told him he could leave because I'd be staying long in the school. We were apparently going to have a meeting about our graduation dinner and somehow, someone had the mind to make a part of the organising committee.

"Are you sure you're okay? I don't see Hidayah anywhere." He said to me and I kinda disliked the fact that he was being extra clingy when he had a short bubbly dimpled girl waiting for him, one he strangely resembled so much.

"Yeah." I said dismissively with a tight smile. He hesitated at first before he shrugged and left the premises.

I sighed and moved straight to the library to get some studying done before the time of the meeting and before Hidayah caught up with me, because that would be the end of my study session.

For some reason, I was able to get a little studying done because Hauwa's face kept flashing in my eyes. I was annoyed because after we'd left Sa'ad's on Friday, I was able to keep the entire thought off my head but seeing him today changed everything. I didn't even know I had the complete picture of her face until now that it kept flashing in my eyes.

She was pretty, the kind of pretty any guy would want. Short, bubbly and fair. Unlike me, awkwardly tall, timid and a little bit darker than her. Actually the only thing I've got on her was my skin, my skin tone and everything about it could rival her own but apart from that, nobody would pick me over Hauwa'u.

I hissed out audibly because why was I even comparing myself to Hauwa'u? It's not like there's something going on between me and Sa'ad. Maybe an infatuation and it was expected because we've defied the rules of Islam where it was said not to be alone in the company of any man that wasn't your mahram. I guess that explained why I was feeling that way.

"Found you." Hidayah's voice whispered and I almost jumped out of my seat. She noticed this because she stared at me suspiciously before adding "calm down babe, it's just me."

"Hi," I stood up to hug her because I needed to feel better about everything. "Ya Umma?"

"She's fine." She answered in a low tone as her eyes scanned my face. "Iram, what's going on?" We normally used to sit opposite each other but she sat down beside me today, with her palm on my right knee.
