'I am flying,
As well as falling'

I build my wings,
Of bone and gold,
Exit the castle,
Of rock and stone.

As I hurtle towards the ocean depths,
My toes skim the water,
Before I propel up into the sky again.

Soaring like a bird.

I ignore the heat of my wings,
And approach the sun,
Closer,
Closer.

A single golden feather,
Melts off the contraption,
But I think only that feather was affected,
So I continue to ignore it.

More and more feathers,
Drop into the blue expanse below,
But I continue to fly,
Persevering,
Just like I have been told to my entire life.

My Grandfather's voice beckons,
But the cruel wind blocks my hearing,
I never got to hear what he said.

Falling like a deceased bird.

The higher I fly,
The more I fall,
And before I know it,
I hurtle down into the ocean,
And don't come up again.
