Chapter 13 : Flight Convo

"I'm sorry Kevin. I wish I had a choice. I wish Daniel had a choice. But I guess we both don't." William Hills said, and left. Kevin was alone in the room sobbing, imagining a thousand of different scenarios of how different it could have gone. But reality stabbed him, more painfully than he could ever imagine.

Meanwhile in a separate room, Metuna was asked by ACROSS for the coordinates to her home-planet. Metuna replied about how her home planet wasn't hers anymore, that in the war that took place, Kronox had taken over it. Instead, she requested to be sent to the neighbouring planet where she thought she should be safe.
Metuna gave the coordinates to the Planet Rosterina - The Planet of Glimmer.

It was where she would feel safe. But she wanted Kevin to come along with her, although it wasn't possible. She didn't want to be separated, but at that point, she had no other choice either.

In the next couple of days, the SOS signal was sent and Metuna was successfully sent back to Rosterina. Leaving Kevin alone with no option but to live with that fact.

However the Director of ACROSS, William Hills, saw immense potential with several vengeful skills in Kevin Cafaro. William Hills safely dropped Kevin in his aunt's house followed by the information that his father Daniel couldn't be there that day with him.

To William Hills, this kind of unusual activity was rare. Members from ACROSS just disappeared without a trace from a mission. But then he realised, this hadn't happened in more than a decade. Hence, making this his responsibility to make the best of the situation.

When Kevin Cafaro turned twelve, William Hills invited him to the headquarters of ACROSS to learn more about the physical combat and the world that existed beyond his capable range.

Kevin started training there, usually in the weekends, with the Kanikata - the last thing Metuna left her son with. And so he yeilded her bow proudly, for every shot he took, and for every target he aimed at. William Hills saw immense potential in Kevin, even personally trained him for few sessions to examine his skills in proximity.

William Hills treated Kevin as his son for the few years that followed in the occasions they met. However, Kevin didn't have the same viewpoint about William.

When Kevin Cafaro turned eighteen, he was officially a member of ACROSS. But in reality, William Hills granted him permission to tag along on several missions since he was sixteen. If William hadn't trusted Kevin's skills, he wouldn't have let him. With the Kanikata in his hands, Kevin seemed indestructible.

Kevin shared some specific details of his life with Vinsh while waiting for the rest of the team to arrive at the site.

Vinsh shook his head, listening carefully to Kevin. But most importantly, trying to make sure of the reason why Kevin joined the force. The reasons were many, but Vinsh felt there was a motive, besides just training himself to be strong.

"I officially joined this year," Kevin revealed.

Vinsh tried to connect the dots. 'In the same year Kevin had joined, he went on multiple missions and also secured a good rank,' Vinsh kept the course of time according to Vinsh's story in his mind.

'Kevin couldn't have been more than eighteen years.' Vinsh looked surprised, 'Such skills that let Kevin be apar so early. He must be good.' Vinsh evaluated everything.

As soon as as few considerable minutes had passed, Vinsh spotted Jacob pacing towards them from a distance. But he wasn't alone. It looked to Vinsh as if ... Jacob's opponent, Galen, was walking alongside him.
