Ah smut Many people love it But are you comfortable writing it?
Listen, yes, smut is great and what not. But if you are not comfortable, as an author, writing and getting in to detail, then don't! Stories can be just as good without smut. Most stories actually thrive without it.
The most important thing: If you are uncomfortable writing smut, DO. NOT. WRITE. IT. Its not mandatory!!!

Now, what about writing smut?
Here's my short answer: I don't particularly know.
The reason I say this is because I have never written it. But from reading it, I can tell you to give detail. Go the extra 1,000 words to really put in detail. I know that's a lot but, it makes all the difference. Here's some words I would not recommend: - Wand (do I need to explain?) - Rod (er) - Stick (it's not a stick-) - Va Ja Ja (miss thing.....) Instead, use the name. Its not difficult.
I know some people find it awkward to write, but it's what it's called. Not "His Wand into my-" NO NONE OF THAT

One HUGE pet peeve of mine would be when a story has a Mature tag and the story is not one bit of mature. Or when a sex scene comes up it says "You can imagine the rest" Like no. I cant. That's why I'm here, reading this

Now, once again, smut is not necessary for a good fic. It just adds spice.
