the sunlight shined into the room. annie felt something heavy on her chest and slowly opened her eyes.
mikasa's head rested on annie's chest, she was asleep.
annie shifted, trying to free herself, when mikasa opened her eyes slowly. the first thing she saw was annie's blue orbs before she jumped up in shock.
"i-..! i'm sorry!" she yelled and removed herself quickly from annie.
she turned around and tried hiding her red face.
"oh, it's fine, sweetie. no need to be embarrassed" annie smirked.
"wha-" mikasa gasped. she clearly didn't know how to react after being called 'sweetie' by the other girl. even though she knew she said it ironically, she was still flustered.
"where is eren..?" mikasa wanted to know, still looking away.
"how am i supposed to know? i fell asleep first."
mikasa didn't respond and just slowly got up.
"where are your friends..? isn't this their room too?"
annie got up as well and reached out for her phone.
"reiner texted me." she opened the messenger. "'we're staying the night at your room. eren is also here. you two have fun to-'" annie caught herself off and just widened her eyes. after a few seconds she gulped and put her phone away.
"anyway, let's clean up a bit and leave. i mean, well, you can stay here i don't really care. i doubt you'd wanna leave with me anyway, so."
annie started picking up the remainings from the night before and put them in the trash. she folded the blankets and was ready to take her leave after it looked somewhat acceptable.
mikasa just starred at her.
"..what is it?" the blonde raised an eyebrow.
after the other girl didn't respond she just scoffed and left the room.
she entered her room quietly, making sure not to wake anyone up, when she suddenly heard a loud thud. she rushed in and saw the boys throwing pillows through the air.
"ahh!! a monster!" reiner yelled and threw a pillow in her face.
"you little..."
"reiner! i will protect you!" berthold stood tall yet frightened in front of reiner and annie kicked him in the knee.
"what the hell are you guys doing early in the morning?!"
while berthold cried in pain, eren apologized for the mess and put the pillows back on annie's bed.
the boys were just about to leave when the door opened and mikasa entered.
"hello, lovely sister...!" eren greated her nervously.
"what did you do?" mikasa frowned while closing the door behind her.
"i didn't accidentally spill soda on your bed"
"you what?!" mikasa and annie shouted simultaneously. mikasa glanced quickly at annie and then back at eren.
"you idiot! how the hell did that happen?" she approached her bed and realized the mattress was gone.
"we already brought it to the laundromat.. they said it will take at least a day." the boy nervously scratched his head.
mikasa was visibly mad but she tried not to show it. she growled and put her stuff back into her shelf.
"i'm sorry. we were messing around and then i-"
"it's fine, eren. mistakes happen."
annie and the two boys were surprised by how little the raven-head showed her anger. they figured it was probably because eren was her brother.
the three boys left and mikasa sat on the chair at her desk. the girls didn't talk, much as usual.
annie starred at mikasa.
"stop starring so pitifully at me."
"well, i can't help since i pity you so much. you sit in your bed most of the time, i bet you're sitting on a chair the first time in your life now."
mikasa glared at the blonde.
annie wanted to invite her over to her bed. she wanted to be closer to her and do things with her. at the thought her face slightly lit up and she decided to not speak up again. mikasa would turn down her offer anyway, she thought.
the girl took out her school stuff and slammed it on her desk.
"you seriously gonna study now..?" annie asked.
"i'm just being a good student."
"oh is that so? hm, i wonder what i should do. i could take nap here in my comfy bed"
"...you think you're making me jealous?"
annie grinned at the girl.
"i'm pretty sure i am"
mikasa tried ignoring the girl and focused on her task. after some time she heard the sheets rustling. she quickly turned around and saw annie lying on her stomach and facing mikasa. she frowned and turned back around.
"mikasa~" annie called her out tenderly.
the way annie said her name drove her crazy but she tried not to show it. she just kept starring at the book in front of her though her mind was still at annie.
"mi-ka-sa"
"...will you please shut up already? can't you see i'm trying to focus?"
annie didn't know what to do to just make mikasa accept her. all she wanted was to at least get along with her but she didn't know how to approach her. she thought she knew how to, but the other girl just refused to have any kind of relationship with annie. the problem was mikasa and not annie, she thought.
"gosh" annie got up from her bed abruptly.
"you're so annoying. you're so difficult to talk to, i can't understand how you can actually have friends. didn't eren even say that you don't?"
the blonde rushed out of the room without taking anything but her phone with her.
mikasa starred at the door where annie just left. she dropped her head on the desk and started sobbing silently.
her head was a mess.
her heart was a mess.
she would be lying if she said what annie said didn't hurt her. though she thought this was how she was supposed to feel since it was true what the girl accused her of.
she didn't want it to be true.
she was truly a mess.
