chapter fourteen
real life

Shaun opened the door to see Tommy stood there in blue jeans, his red and white top and a black suit jacket. he couldn't help but laugh at the boy. it was certainly... an outfit.

"you look like an idiot." Salem's dad commented before turning around and calling into the house. "Salem, Tommy is here!"

instantly, Salem came running down the stairs. she wore her black dress and white dotted hearts all over it, paired with black combat boots.

"oh." Shaun sighed, "you both look like idiots. have fun with that."

Salem sarcastically laughed and stuck up her middle finger to her dad, "you're so funny, dad, honestly. go bother Rich." she joked.

as they began walking away, hands locked together, Shaun called out, "you look like you were abducted by a blue banana employee and then found Tommy in a charity shop!"

Tommy and Salem sat down in the field on a bright rainbow tie dye blanket tommy had bought especially for the date. they laid down a plain white cake and got out a mix of many icings to decorate.

"we should draw a panda!" salem suggested enthusiastically.

Tommy scrunched up his nose, "gross why?" he laughed sarcastically.

That instantly dampened Salem's mood. she hated being obviously judged for things she did. she especially didn't need that from Tommy. not on their first date atleast.

"because they're cute and i want to." Salem huffed, giving him a pointed look.

"alright." Tommy hummed, his tone challenging which annoyed Salem more, "i'm just drawing a computer screen."

"fitting." Salem replied sarcastically.

"and that means?" tommy defensively replied.

Salem gave him a look, "nothing. you wanna judge what i do so now i'm judging you. be a dickhead and i'll be the same back."

"this movie sucks." Tommy groaned in the middle of the movie they watched when they got back.

the picnic had went by with few arguements. one of them from tommy insulting the way Salem ate jaffa cakes. and another about sandwiches, don't ask. it had been okay though. mostly.

"no it doesn't!" Salem told him, "the notebook is a fucking amazing movie, you're just heartless."

"it'a depressing. why are you making this date depressing and dull?"

huffing, Salem clicked off. she tried not to be annoyed by how whiny Tommy was being today. if that were her she would watch it just because he liked it. instead she went back to the home screen.

"do you wanna watch the buzzfeed unsolved videos i suggested?" she asked.

Tommy shrugged, clearly irritated, "not my thing so no. but if you really want sure i guess we'll do that then."

"well no if it's not your thing i won't put it on. what do you want to fucking watch then?"

"i don't know, Sal!" Tommy defended.

Salem's tone softened slightly, hoping she could come back from the start of an arguement, "c'mon let's just decide on something."

Tommy rolled his eyes, "why don't you bloody choose if you're gonna keep going on about it."

"i'm not going on but i'd rather actually finish something today." Salem huffed.

"you are going on though." Tommy murmured as if she couldn't hear.

giving up, Salem stood to her feet. Tommy's eyes widened and disappointment appeared on his face. guilt pitted in his stomach. carelessly, Salem grabbed her jacket.

"i'm going home, Tommy. the date has been good but i just... i don't wanna keep arguing with you."
