Make Way For Plan B

"It's exactly like the Salvatore mansion back in Mystic Falls- modern day Mystic Falls anyway." She said in awe as she walked through the barren house, the only sounds audible were Kai's swig from the bottle of alcohol every now and then.

"Bonnie!" She called out only to be greeted by the sound of silence as she made her way through each of the remaining rooms.

"If she was here she would have answered by now." She thought to herself.

She made her way back to the living room taking a seat on the rug. She cursed herself for assuming that this would be easy. Get in find Bonnie, and then get out was a plan. Things never work out like they should.

"There are so many other places she could be, why would she just pick up and leave?" She asked no one in particular.

"Well can you blame her, if I was forced to look at the same things every day- Oh wait, I was, and even I didn't stay in one place for long." She was about to respond when she noticed him pacing back and forth somewhat nervously making small erratic movements here and there.

He seemed anxious, and seeing that on Kai Parker, was somewhat unnerving.

"Are you- Are you okay?" She asked him awkwardly.

He stopped and looked in her direction causing her to jump suddenly at the dark look that bore his face.

"Nostalgia is kicking in and I'm starting to realize just how much I miss this place." He reiterated, sarcasm seeping from every word.

"Well pull yourself together," She started standing up and dusting off her pants, "The sooner we find Bonnie, the sooner we get out."

"Right, I keep forgetting. Elena Gilbert, ever the optimist. I don't know if anyone's ever told you before, but it's kind of annoying." He replied matter-of-factly.

"Are you going to aggravate me, or are we going to go find my best friend? I don't know if you remember but we're kind of on a time crunch here." She asked, glaring in annoyance.

"I don't know that's kind of a hard decision- aggravating you sounds like kind of fun." He said pretending to ponder it.

"Let's go." She ordered pushing him forward sightly.

"I just love it when you get all demanding, you know telling me what to do. It's kind of hot."

"Just go."

~time skip~

They attempted the little grocery store down the street, via Kai's idea.

"She's not here." Elena groaned coming back to the bench in which Kai was sitting after searching the last.

"Thanks for the help by the way." She said taking a seat next to him putting her head in her hands.

"Why here anyways?" She asked him.

"Oh Damon didn't tell you? This is where we all met. The three trapped amigos. It's kind of a funny story really. Damon and Bonnie we're arguing like every other day. Damon walked in and found me minding my own business and was all like 'Who are you and what are you doing here.' So we had ourselves a nice little chat, and then I tricked him into drinking some bourbon filled with vervain. Then while he was like choking and dying on the floor, which was really gross by the way, Bonnie came in here all gang ho like 'I'm going to kill you.' Then she tried to set me on fire, which would have been really cool if the purpose wasn't to burn me alive." He explained frowning slightly as he thought about it.

"I'm sorry I asked." She whispered as they made their way out.

"Well, she is your friend where else would she go?"

"There's hundreds of places she could have gone. Can't you just locate her or something?"

"While we're under a spell already? Already breaking the balance of nature? Do you have a death wish?"

"Well it depends on if I stay here any longer than a few days with you."

"Rude. Check," He said pretending to check something off an invisible notepad.

"What?"

"Oh it's my mental list of flaws you have that aren't going to work out in this relationship."

"Are you delusional?" She asked him wide eyed

"Depends on what day it is or the weather, and sometimes there's the whole socio factor." He shrugged nonchalantly.

Elena rolled her eyes, biting back the urge to laugh.

There was nothing but silence, as they made their way down the street with an unclear destination.

"Hey, isn't this the moment where you spit out something irritatingly optimizing?" Kai piped up after they had been walking for what seemed like an hour. She gave him a look.

"Here let me help. 'Hey Kai how about we go back to the Salvatore mansion and stay there for the night to see if Bonnie comes back.'" He suggested mocking her in an annoying high-pitched.

"Couldn't you have come up with idea before we walked in the completely opposite direction?"

"Hey," He started putting a hand over her mouth causing her eyes to wide, "Optimism."

"Plus it was your idea anyway." He added as they turned around and continued to walk on in the contradictory route.

"I don't sound like that Kai." She reiterated, shoving him somewhat playfully smiling slightly.

"I get a playful shove and a laugh. Do you know what that means?"

"What?" She asked him confused as to where he was getting at.

"We're friends."

"No, we're not." She counteracted, laughing humorously.

"No, I think we are. You should be glad. I usually kill my friends by now."

"We are not friends Kai, more like business partners." She cleared her throat awkwardly.

"You're right we're not friends," He started, "Plus it'd be kind of weird to date your friend anyway." He finished, nodding in clarification as if he hadn't heard her in the first place.

"If you keep this up, I'm going to strangle you."

"Aw babe, don't be like that."

"This is going to be a long week." She muttered under her breath.
