Disclaimer: I do not own anything the Vampire Diaries. If I did Kai Parker would be a main character not a recurring one, and he wouldn't be DEAD!

"I miss you like everyday
Wanna be with you, but you're away
Said I miss you, missing you insane
But if I got with you, could it feel the same?"

Chapter 5- One Hell of A Car Ride

Elena was slowly banging her head against the window now. That's how bad it had gotten and in the moment she probably would rather getting stabbed repeatedly than to have to listen to Kai continue on about God knows what another minute.

She had tuned him out for the most part. Though that was only in the beginning. It was when things got on the subject of their "relationship" that the one-sided conversation took a turn for the worst and she was forced to interject.

"- I mean even though you are severely flawed I still feel like we could make this work." He explained to her.

"I'm the severely flawed one?!"She questioned him, raising her eyebrows incredulously.

"See? I knew we'd be on the same page." He quipped, a smug look on his face.

"You kill people, Kai: whether it's for fun, when you don't get your way, when you're bored, or any emotion at that. Oh, wait I forgot, you're a sociopath so you don't feel emotions!" She ranted, voice raising a few octaves.

"Used to." Kai piped up after a few seconds post Elena's unexpected outburst.

"Used to what?" She scowled still seething with aggravation.

"Not feel emotions. You know, before I defied the laws of nature and merged with my stupid brother?"

"Well, you make it sound like you regret it... Do you? " Elena asked him, surprising herself with the question.

"I regret not merging with Jo in the first place because then I wouldn't have feelings. I'd so much rather her dead than Luke. She is the reason I was trapped here in the first place. Plus, she's really annoying- and whiny."

"Remind you of anyone?" Elena scoffed.

"Yeah, you." He nodded matter-of-factly, causing her to frown.

"You're insufferable, you know that?"

"Geez, Elena. You've got to stop with these nicknames. I haven't even come up with one for you yet." He replied, earning an eye-roll.

Damon sat seemingly unmoving on the living room sofa. The only movements he made consisted of him either taking a sip from the bourbon that occupied his glass or him palming the timer that lay in his hand.

"She'll be fine." Stefan had tried to reassure him the day before, hours after she had vanished from the spot her and Kai were standing in the cemetery.

The younger Salvatore wasn't there. He didn't feel the force of the blast. If he had been any closer- if he hadn't heeded the warlock's warning he surely would have been dead. Even with being a little more than ten feet away the effect of the spell- the energy from it had sent him flying

Maybe the spell didn't injure Elena, but that wasn't what he was concerned about. It wasn't the major problem, in fact it was irrelevant compared to what really made him apprehensive.

Kai Parker.

He had witnessed what the warlock was capable of first hand, even before he absorbed the magic from the barrier or merged with his brother. Elena had too. That's what bothered him. The fact that she wasn't reluctant to put her life in the hands of a psychopath. The fact that she volunteered for this, was what made the hairs on the back of his neck stand.

He was on edge with anxiety, and even the fiery taste of the alcohol he'd been consuming wasn't enough to calm him. Every time he attempted to occupy himself with other activities, his mind always brought him back to the circumstance at hand.

With questions like, 'What if he hurts her?" Or: 'What if they don't make it back in time?'

She could be in danger in any moment or time in the next six days and there was nothing he could do about it. He was helpless, and he hated feeling helpless.

"Mind if I join you?" He heard the familiar blonde's voice question him from behind.

"How did you get in here?" He asked, draining the last sip of bourbon from his glass and refilling it in a somewhat robotic way.

"Stefan let me in." Caroline replied, making her way into his visual. "He's worried about you, you know?" She added when Damon's only reply was another mouthful of alcohol.

"So what he decided to send you to what?... Check on me?" He questioned her, laughing humorlessly in disbelief.

" Trust me you are the last person I want to spend my afternoon with; but you are probably the only person worried as me about Elena, besides Jeremy, but he's nowhere to be found so...here I am." She explained shifting uncomfortably with a shrug.

"If you want a little therapy session, to talk about your feelings, I have a younger, nicer brother who would actually care to listen." He said making eye contact with her as she sent a glare his way. Nevertheless, Damon motioned to the seat across from him.

"Great, just what I need is to hear Blondie go on and on for who knows how long." He thought sarcastically taking another swig from his glass.

She had been leading him in circles. Her excuse in the beginning was that she hadn't been to Bonnie's grandmother's house in so long that the directions were kind of hazy. She couldn't let him know where that house actually was- all the powers it contained.

Then there were the grimoires. She was a Bennett witch and if Kai managed to get his hands on the spells the grimoires contained when they got back all hell would break lose. Not to mention the fact that Bonnie would kill her if she found out that she let a psychopath anywhere near her Gram's house.

Elena thought back to the letter she had found at the Salvatore mansion. It had been addressed to her and Damon. She was under the assumption that if she was being saved, that it would be by two people she trusted. Not the person who had been part of the reason she was trapped here in the first place.

For that reason alone, she decided that she needed to be the one to find Bonnie. She could just imagine Bonnie refusing to leave just for the sake of Kai having ulterior motives, which was completely possible.
Awesome, now she had something else to fret about on top of everything else.

Elena needed to do this. If Bonnie, by any chance wasn't there, then she needed to find the clue as to where Bonnie had went next. Not only that, but it was pertinent that she find some way to ditch Kai, and she knew that that would be anything but easy.

Elena sighed. Everything had become even more complicated in matter of minutes.
