Rhys's POV:
Fuck. It can't rain, not now. Out of all the hours in a day, mother nature chooses to soak me now? Just my luck.
I have no time to sulk about getting wet. Alex will be waiting for me and she doesn't like to wait- for anyone.
So I pick up the pace, balling my fists in my trouser pockets as retaliation to the rain.
The high street is lined with bakeries and cafés; clearly wanting to suck dumb students in for overpriced coffee. Student life here is buzzing- Oxford university is only minutes away.
Alex should be about a couple of blocks away, just behind the Starbucks carpark in our car. The nearing promise of warmth and shelter encourages me to walk faster.
The rain is making my hair stick to the sides of my face. I tighten my fists. The air is hot and sticky.
Everything is annoying me now: the pattering of the rain hitting the concrete, the cold ass wind and all these dumb asses passing by, so clueless of half the shit that goes on in the world.
Two blocks away.
I keep pushing past people, avoiding their sweaty bodies. I focus on my destination.
The rain is getting heavier, drenching my shirt- should've brought my jacket. I take a mental note to scowl at myself later.
One block away.
These people are annoying me. Why are there so many people? They are just inconveniences to me: pesky, ignorant, arrogant inconveniences.
Focusing on the curving pavement leading to the back alleyway, I thought of Alex's familiarity. I pick up my pace. Yes, when I saw her I would be okay. Not great, but okay. A momentary sense of calm soothed me.
As I turned the corner, two imbacills crash into me- sending me stumbling backwards. However due to my build, the collision seems to impact the two dumbasses way more than me.
I heard a yelp and a... scoff?
As I regain my balance I clench my jaw. Someone was going to get punched. Looking up, two embarrassed girls (teenagers?) fumbled with themselves.
I examine the girls- there isn't much to see.
Probably trying to get to the campus that is only three minutes away. Why were they so late on the first day of the school year?
Not my problem. One of them was simply dazed whereas the other fell flat on her face. Morons.
" So, so sorry i-" the dazed one is muttering. Before she could finish her pathetic apology I walk off.
Continuing down the corner I lay my eyes upon the car. Thank fuck. As I near the Mercedes I see Alex smirking at me in the drivers seat.
The day we got that car, it was originally in a funky leopard print. I told Alex there was no way in flying fuck that I'd sit in it. She convinced me it'd be a fun project for us to work on together.
We spent hours painting the car black, fitting black tires, tinting the windows to our prefered shade, lining the insides with LED lights (she insisted).
I wouldn't trade that car for the world.
I pray internally that she hasn't witnessed the idiocy of the scene that just took place. She would never let me live that down.
Attempting to put a cool, calm facade on as I approach the car, I opened the car door.
"Mingling?" Alex smirks as I sit in the passenger seat.Fuck.
"Just go," I grumble.
