Kaylah Dawson
10:42 am
I opened my eyes to a dimly lit room, the curtains still shut, preventing the day's light from peeking through. The aching in my skull flows around like a tide, causing a deep groan to leave my lips, the pressure in my head giving the impression it could blow at and given second.
The sound of my phone ringing ran through the room - the room I had now distinguished as my own bedroom, even though I had no recollection of how I got home last night - causing me to groan and sit up begrudgingly, my eyes still shut. "I need pills." I groaned out, ignoring my phone and instead attempting to open my heavy eyelids, only for them to fall shut again. I raised them again, managing to keep them open this time, swung my legs off the bed onto the carpet and slowly, messily made my way to the bathroom.
Walking back in here for the first time since yesterday forced me to remember the whole reason I went out last night, and the whole reason I was hungover now. I clenched my fists by my side as I remembered the detectives words.
"Sorry, but there's nothing more we can do. These cases go onto higher services now."
After that I didn't hear anything else that was said, and well, now I'm here, staring at the mirror into my bloodshot eyes. Clearly the whole 'forgetting' thing didn't work.
I splash cold water on my face, as if trying to refresh my head, instantly wishing I could forget everything, 'wake up with amnesia' or whatever 5 seconds of summer said.
The cold water breaking me out of thoughts, allowing me to remember my phone, which had stopped ringing. I hope is wasn't anything important.
Grabbing a towel I dried off my face, picking up my phone from my bedside table and switching it on.
Missed call from : Unknown Number
Usually I ignore calls from numbers I don't recognize, but something told me to call the number back, so I did.
One ring.
Two rings.
"Hello?" An unfamiliar voice came from the other side of the phone. This reminded me too much of the last time I answered my phone, but I chose to ignore the thoughts that threatened to push into my head, and focus on the conversation I was having.
"Hello, erm, its Kaylah Dawson. I'm returning a missed call from this number?"
"Ah yes, Kaylah Dawson. I'm Ben from BioVitality, the company you applied for. Ms Carter said she spoke to you yesterday informing you of your acceptance to our company, I'd just like to confirm some details."
"Ms Carter....?" I trailed off, thinking back to the few parts of yesterday I remembered.
"Yes ma'am, she informed you of your acceptance yesterday."
My brows furrowed as my foggy brain whirred to find a conversation I apparently had with a Ms Carter last night, a choppy flashback of the night's events running through my head....
There was a small area of soft seated chairs surrounding a black table, with people sat around smoking weed and doing lines. The temptation to join in was immmense, but I didn't come here to get high - at least not yet.
"Here you are darling." A voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned round to look at the voice and met eyes with the bartender. "For you, on the house, you look like you need something strong to start your night off."
"You don't know the half of it."

Downing the remainder of the drink, I passed the bartender the glass back. "I'll have a whiskey sour, and a gimlet - with extra vodka." I ordered, before paying and making my way over to the secluded area I'd spotted earlier. I guess it was time to get high after all.
"Mind if I join?" I asked.

"What brings a pretty thing like you to such a corrupt scene then?" Coby asked, looking at me with intruige.
"Hmm, I guess a pretty face doesn't always mean a pretty soul." I answered, gulping back the drinks I got from the bar earlier, and taking the joint out of Coby's hand, putting it into my mouth and taking another drag.
"A pretty face and a dark past? You're my type babe." He chuckled, nudging the girl next to him - the guy I'd seen eating a guys face earlier. "Check out this girl bro, she might actually be fun to hang out with, unlike the rest of these sluts we find around here."

"Oh, wow, well this is unexpected isn't it San," Coby's friend said to me, her lips pulling into a smirk I'd seen too many times before. "Hello Kaylah."
Oh no. I gripped the phone in my hand tighter, the panic I was feeling sobering me up immediately. "Erm, this Ms Carter, what's her first name?"
"Hayden." Ben from BioVitality replied.
And just like that my world stopped. "I-I'll call you back, Ben from Biovitality." I mumbled, ending the phone and falling onto my bed.
What the fuck happened last night?
