Grace stopped by. "Hey, I was wondering if I could talk to you about Joey?", she said. Grace looked a lot like her father.
"Yeah, of course. What's up?"
"Well.. After the whole incident, Joey's been distant. We did great before.. You know, we could talk forever and we had sex all the time", she said. Her blue eyes lit up.
I choked on my bear claw. “Okay--- uh- continue”, I mumbled as I tried to free my throat of the baked good.
“He's great. He is just beautiful. Like literally a beautiful guy”, she said softly.
I nodded. I guess Joey was a beautiful guy? I mean.. Sure, he had the pretty, blue eyes and his perfect teeth. “Uh-huh”, I said in a high pitched tone.
“I love him! But I'm afraid he doesn't love me back. I can't tell what he's thinking”, Grace complained.
“Well, I haven't talked too much about the two of you with Joey, but I guess I can pick his brain”, I said. It sounded like a question. Grace thanked me and stood up, adjusting her short skirt.
I put on the disturbingly tight jeans that Gemma got me, as well as a blue tank top. I went down to the local electronics store, hoping to get a job that didn't involve any gun firing. The need to take a step back from the MC was indescribable. “Well, I see you've been two years at NYU, studying for a bachelors degree in IT? I'm sure you'd do great at customer service! I'll give you a call and let you know”, the manager said. I thanked him and shook his hand before leaving. I told Jax about applying for the job and he seemed fine with it. Surely there were a lot of people who'd be happy to hang around TM.
“So, how are things with you and Grace?”, I asked Joey. He was a bit more secretive than usual. “Fine”, he replied. I playfully hit his arm; “Come on.. Spill”, I giggled. Joey had cleaned up. He had skinned his head again and gotten rid of the beard. Joe told me in such a philosophical way that maybe all things new aren't so great after all. “Do you-- love her?”, I asked. My attempt at being subtle had completely failed. He saw right through me, like he always did. I guess when it came to Joey, I was as see-through as a window. “Does she? Obviously you talked to her”, he said, with a little smile. I admitted defeat and told him about my conversation with Grace. Joey rubbed his head as he got up and walked over to Grace. I couldn't hear what he was saying, but it sure made her happy. Her joyful laugh filled the room as she embraced him.
I woke up next to Jax. He was breathing heavily and I could see his eyes moving rapidly under his eyelids. Jax was holding me tight. This proved to be a problem as my stomach suddenly turned. “Jax”, I whispered. He didn't respond, so I called his name louder. He pulled me even closer to him. I ripped his arm off of me and he woke up disorientated. I sprung up from the bed and ran for the bathroom. I barely made it in time to the toilet bowl. My stomach acid made my throat burn. I thought I had gotten it all out, but I was so disgusted by the vomit that I hurled again. I heard Jax's steps move closer. “Oh god, Jax, don't”, I tried to shout. My voice was sounded rawer than ever. I grabbed a towel and wiped my face. “You didn't eat any of those burritos last night, did you?”, I struggled to say. “No.. Are you okay in there?”, He asked. I waved my hand in the doorway, signaling that I was fine. A case of food poisoning was exactly what I needed on the first day of my new job.
I called my boss and told him I had food poisoning, but I'd get there as soon as I could. He was very understanding. Jax was making pancakes, for some odd reason. “You want pancakes, darlin'?”, He shouted from the kitchen. The thought of it made me sick. I came in and gave him an angry stare, letting him know that pancakes were the last thing I needed. He smiled and threw me a pack of saltines. I sat down at the kitchen table, pulling my knees to my chest and I dragged the large t-shirt over my legs. “I will never- ever – eat anything from Hermano's again”, I declared as I stuffed my face with the salty crackers. “Preach it”, Jax joked. “Cool it, Sharkeisha”, I replied. Jax sat down and started eating his pancakes. He was purposely chewing them with his mouth open. “Mmmm-- this tastes amazing”, Jax announced. I flipped him off, but I couldn't help but laugh a bit.
Dad stopped by. He looked at me and patted me on the head. I gave him a stare. I felt like a teenager. “Did you bring soda?”, I asked, my heart was filled with hope. “I feel like I have a seven year old child again”, dad said. “We gotta catch up on lost times”, I said with a big smile on my face. “I'm still your little gurrel, right?”, I asked, making fun of his Scottish accent. Dad said something in a broad Scottish accent and I couldn't understand shit. Jax and I looked at each other with blank stares. Apparently it was dad's payback. A terrible revenge, I would say.
When I started to feel better, I put on the green shirt my boss, Mike, gave me. It made my complexion look worse than it already did. “I'm glad you're feeling better, Cassie”, Mike said. “Yeah, you and me both”, I replied. He looked at me from top to toe before making a remark about how the shirt brought out my green eyes. I wasn't sure, but I thought that he was flirting with me. A fake laugh left my mouth. Mike showed me around before leaving me at my station.
