"Echoes"

"With a secret like that, at some point the secret itself becomes irrelevant. The fact that you keep it does not."

Josie POV

       Dear Diary,

I don't see the point in writing down my feelings and thoughts but dad said it helps so here I am. It has been about a week since Hope disappeared from school and since our argument. The words I said have been gnawing at me and I would give anything to apologize. But she's gone now and I don't know where. Penelope and I have been looking for her everywhere but to no avail.  At first, Penelope was angry that Hope just left her like that but after Maya told her what happened she's spent all of her time in the library. It got so bad that she would only leave the library to go to the bathroom. She wasn't eating or sleeping so I knocked her out with magic and Mg carried her to her room. Speaking of Mg, while the pageant was going on apparently there was a gorgon in our school who was trying to capture Landon for Triad. The gorgon had turned dad into stone but he's fine now.

Actually, that leads me to my dad. Penelope told me about how she spelled the pens that she gave everyone to Christmas. She told me that my dad has been hiding something called the Merge from me since I was born.

So that's great, while dad's hiding something from me and I was having relationship problems Mg was saving the school. And to add to the growing pile of problems, Mr. Williams came back a few days ago saying that he was possessed by a slug that made him give the urn to Triad. So there's only one key that stands between the destruction of all supernatural. And Landon a.k.a the only person who somehow finds the keys has gone missing as well, so there's that. This isn't helping, it's just making me angry.

I throw the pink journal at the wall and I lay back down onto her bed. Her floral smell gone from her sheets and blankets. I turn over to look at Penelope's empty bed. I groan as I stand up. "I swear if she's in the library, I'm about to throw this girl." I make my way to the library and lo and behold. Penelope's small frame is curled into a ball on the couch. The only sound in the room is her cute snores. I walk up to her and get close to her ear. "PENELOPE!" She jolts up and looks around wildly. Her eyes land on me and she looks down guilty. "What did I say about staying too late in the library." She holds her hands up in defense. "I didn't mean to, I just found a good lead and stayed to read it but I accidentlyfellasleep." Her last few words come out jumbled and she sighs.

I'm about to scold her more when the click of heels causes me to turn around. I'm met with the sight of Alyssa Chang a.k.a the devil. I feel Penelope walk over and stand behind me. "What are you doing here?" Penelope's voice comes out harsh. Alyssa pouts. "Now that's not how you treat someone who knows what happened to Hope."

    ----------------------------------------

"So you're saying my dad asked you for a favor. A favor in which you teleported Hope into a prison world using something called an Ascendant on the day of the pageant." Alyssa nods her head. "Yup, that was actually a really good summary." "So how do we get her out?" "I don't know. You should probably ask your dad." She skips away after saying that and I grumble. "Alright let's go talk to my secretive dad." I grab Penelope's hand and we start walking to my dad's office. Once we get there I stand in front of the big doors debating if I want to go in. I feel Penelope squeeze my hand and I look at her. I shoot her a small grateful smile and I raise my hand to knock on the door.
