You've had a love hate relationship with your hair your whole life. From cutting it to dying it, growing it out to shaving it, and you still can't figure out how to love it completely. One day she's just how you like her to be, and the next day you're twisting her up and throwing on a wig because you can't deal with her.

And that's not even the most nerve racking part; your fiance Lucas has never seen your real hair. You've always kept it in protective styles and not wearing it out when you're around him. It's just such a personal thing with you that you haven't been able to show it yet.

You always think about the times he has asked to see it, and how you would always find a way to convince him you would show him another time.

But today you've decided that you're going to show him. If he's going to be a part of your life forever, he has to know all of you. You've also decided that you're going to start loving your hair no matter what. No matter how much she doesn't turn out to be the way you want.

Tonight you and Lucas are going out to dinner, and you wanted to surprise him. Standing in your bathroom mirror, you began to melt the lace of the wig you had been wearing the past month. Afterward, you gathered your supplies to wash your hair and began to untwist your cornrows. You then went into the shower to cleanse yourself and your hair.

...

After deep conditioning and washing out the product, you stood in front of the mirror again, drenched in water that ran from your head and soaked your t shirt. You then began to style it.

After picking your hair out–you decided to wear it in an afro–you shaped it up.

You were tidying up your house a little bit before hearing your doorbell ring. You got excited because you knew it was Lucas and a big smile was plastered on your face. You took one more look in the big mirror in your living room and went to open the door. As soon as Lucas saw you, his eyes went straight to your hair, but his face held more of a shocked expression than an excited one, which of course made you nervous.

Lucas p.o.v

I stood nervously waiting for her to open the door. It's amazing how she still makes me nervous. I'm happy though, because a few months from now she's going to be my wife and we won't have to wait on each other's front porch anymore, because we'll have our own front porch. I busied my attention with the things taking place in the trees around her house until I heard the door open.

And when it did, she had all my attention. Finally, after being with her for so long, she's finally wearing her natural hair out around me. I want to react the way I feel but I cannot, because her beauty is overwhelming me and I don't want to break down infront of her right now.

"Are you gonna say anything?" She asked with a frown. I hope she doesn't think I don't like it. I can't believe she's been hiding this from me.

"You...look absolutely beautiful." I should've waited a little while before saying anything. Because now I may become emotional.

"Can we go inside for a minute?" I asked after clearing my throat. We walked in and stood at the door.

"So do you like it? I didn't do anything super fancy." She did a little twirl and my heart almost jumped out of my chest from how cute she looked doing it.

"Baby I love it." I smiled and grabbed her hips, pulling her closer to me. As I look at her, I think about the nights when she'll be laying in my arms with her crown of fluff covering my view from her.

And I think about the nights when she'll teach me how to detangle and twist her hair for her, since she used to always complain about how much work it takes.

"I'm like–" I pushed her a little bit away from me so I could see her in full scope again.

"Im so shook right now!" I laughed and she giggled.

"You're such a work of art." I smiled at her and shook my head in disbelief. I can't believe I've managed to fall so deep in love with her. And the best thing abut it, she loves me back.

"Thank you babe. I was scared at first but I'm done hating it. I want to be my whole self now." She smiled and I bent down to kiss her. Because one, my heart couldn't take not doing so, and two, she just looks so pretty, so I had to.

I hugged her again and left my hand around her waist for a while before we began to head out of the door.
