It is universally known that every rich man should want or be in need of a wife.

However, many people don't know the thoughts or feelings of the rich man. In their eyes, he is already their future property. He will be forced down by their daughter in marriage, he will become their in-laws.

"My dear Mr.Bennet," said his wife one day, "have you heard that the Netherfield park was finally sold?"

Mr.Bennet said that he did not.

"But it is," she put out her pinky while sipping tea, "Mrs.Long was just here and told me all about it."

Mr.Bennet did not say anything.

"Do you not want to know who bought the park?", cried his wife.

"You want to tell me, and I have no objection to hearing it."

He didn't say no, so this was invitation enough.

"Why, my dear, Mrs.Long says that Netherfield was bought by a rich young man from the north of England. Apparently, he came by in a carriage with 4 horses to see the place and was so delighted with it that he agreed with Mr.Morris immediately. He's going to own the place before the Michaelmas festival that is taking place this September 4, and some of his servants are moving in."

"What's his name?"

"Bingley."

"Is he married or single?"

"Oh! Single, my dear, to be sure! A single rich man; £664,417 a year. What a fine thing for our girls."

(He makes about 5,000 pounds and according to in2013dollars, that would be around £644,417.19 in today's value (2021). I previously wrote that he earns around a million usd, however dollar-pound ratio changes so :p. Economy shiz is so complicated)

"How so? How would they end up together?"

"My dear Mr.Bennet,", replied his wife, "how can you be so boring. I'm planning to hook him up with one of our daughters right now!"

"Is that what he plans on doing when he gets here?"

"Plans! Nonsense, how can you say that?! But there is a chance that he may fall in love with one of them, so go visit him before he gets here!"

"I see no occasion for that. But you and the girls could go, or they could go by themselves which would be better. After all, you're as handsome as them. Mr.Bingley may fall for you in the party."

"My dear, you flatter me. I certainly have had my share of beauty, but I'm not going to pretend to be extraordinary. When a women has five daughters, she's got to stop thinking of her own beauty."

"In such cases, a women does not have much beauty to think of."

"But, my dear, I encourage you to go and see Me.Bingley when he comes to the neighborhood."

"It's more socializing then I'd rather do, I assure you."

"But consider your daughters right now. Think of how well off and rich one of them could become. Sir Williams and Lady Lucas are determined to go with the same reason, and they don't usually visit newcommeers. Indeed, you must go, for it will be impossible for us to visit if if you don't.

"Though you are overly-scrupulous, surely. I dare say that Mr.Bingley would be very glad to see you; and I'll send him some words from you to assure him of us approving him marrying one of our girls; though I will put in some good words for my little Lizzy."

"Nope, nope, hold up. You're not going to be doing that. Lizzy is not a bit better than the others; and I'm sure she's not as half handsome as Jane, nor half so humorous as Lydia. But you're always giving her preference."

"They have nothing really special to recommend," he replied, "they're all silly and ignorant like other girls; but Lizzy has something more of quick wittiness to her compared to her sisters.

"Mr.Bennet, how can you abuse your children like this? You sadistic fuck, you enjoy vexing me. You have no compassion for my dramatic break downs!"

"You're mistaken, my dear. I have a high respect for your very dramatic break down. They are my old friends. I've heard you talk about them very considerately over the past 20 years at least."

"Ah, you do not know what I suffer."

"But I hope you will get over it and see many more young men of 4,000 come into the neighborhood."

"That would be useless, since you're so stingy and won't visit them."

"Depends, if there are 20, I'll visit them all."

Mr.Bennet was a odd mix of quick wittiness, sarcastic humor, reserved behavior, and sudden mood swings. He was so odd that after 23 years, his wife still didn't understand him.

Her mind was less difficult to figure out. She did not understand much, had little information, and couldn't control her emotions. When she was unsatisfied, she had a nervous breakdown. The only job in her life was to get her daughters married; her only happiness was visiting, visits, and gossip.
