Echoing through a hidden clearing, the sound of careless and heaved footsteps of a small child contrasted with the usual quiet and gentle noises of the forest, alarming it's residents. The young girl's unusual unruly hair shimmering in a beautiful hue of colors against the warm colored flashes of light shining through the tree leaves.
Dry leaves crumpled under her knees and foot once she abruptly stopped and kneeled down. (Y/H/C)-haired child looked behind her shoulders from where she just came from, scanning the area. Her face would usually be showing the same childish smile she would always display when coming to the clearing - her safe haven - but now it only displayed a gentle and worried expression, as if she was searching for someone or something.
Soon, this was confirmed when she saw a figure between the trees. Maybe another time she would have given the heaving frame a comforting smile, and yet, she couldn't move a muscle and her eyes only widened, she shrunk into herself, the pouch she bought for this occasion touched the moss below her clothed knees. Although etched with fear and masked with want to run away, it was clear that the child's face showed knowledge and worry towards the creature.
She had to be honest with herself, after coming to rescue a forest creature (or maybe even a human) after a potential dragon attack, who wouldn't be scared to be faced with the creatures that were told to be the villains of her story?
And yet, her now trembling form couldn't turn away.
She was racking her brain trying to find the courage to either run away or go towards the injured being. Her body was tense and shaking ever-so-slightly. I mean, it wasn't the biggest dragon...And it was weak and vulnerable, it wouldn't attack you. Dragons are smart enough to show gratitude too. She has heard stories about that. So, no harm done in helping a dragon.
Right?
With a lie that her mind was set in helping and there was no risk in it, she breathed as deep as she could, trying to calm herself down, she put her hands on her knees and hoisted her shaky and anxious body up. She begins her amble towards the dragon laying down.
Being a child means that your perspective of time isn't quite right yet, a day goes away much slower. And yet, if you asked an adult version of her about this moment, her answer would still remain: -"Felt like I took ages to get there".
The warm sun shines down on him. He's scared, confused, his body is in a state that was an uncommon mix of dormancy and involuntary agitation. He has flown away from them for many many miles now. The arrows on his hind legs were encrusted with dried blood, yet, this was far from a problem for him at a time like this. His eyes are shut tight, powering through the effects of whatever it is they put on those arrows.
But alas, it seems like he couldn't rest even now.
Head shot up and eyes open wide as the foliage crinkled near him. The growing spikes that crowned his head felt heavier than usual but he was resilient, maybe even stubborn.
-'Steps. Human steps.'- his dragon brain alarmed him. And yet, all he could do was growl at the blurry and smaller figure approaching him. In his foggy head, you were nothing but a threat, a human pup, something he must protect himself from. Nothing but a future hunter.
You knew that you needed to calm him down, you knew you couldn't do anything. You've never seen a dragon act like that from some arrows.
And so, calming him down was what you did, or tried. It was obvious by the way his body weakly sparkled with what was a mere reminder of his actual strength, it didn't hurt you, but it surely made the patching up of his wounds difficult and time consuming, even for a learning child.
Despite all of that, you managed to get him to comply, your gentle and caring touches shined through the fog in his brain.
Carefully touching his body made you realize how soft and gentle his scales were for a dragon. You had never seen a dragon like that, and yet, something in you knew he was just a kid, like you. You were lucky to bring yourself some bread and a bit of water. It wasn't suited for a dragon, but It was the best you could do.
Time has passed by now, she walked and sat down against the nearby tree. The dying lights no longer cover their bodies with it's warm embrace. Now the shying away sunlight made a halo behind her new acquaintance. His eyes never left her face, and her eyes never left his, tracing the scars and unique patterns swirling in his skin. Without the slightest idea that the dragon ahead of her was the catalyst for who (y/n) was truly meant to be.
