Eight

The day after the carnival Betty had called Veronica so they could go check on the redhead after her run in with Toni.

Betty knocked on Cheryl's front door but there was no answer, she turned to look at Veronica 'maybe she's still sleeping?'.

Veronica shrugged but reached for the door handle just in case, it was nearly noon and Cheryl never slept in this late plus her car was on the driveway.

Surprisingly the door was unlocked and Veronica pushed it open walking inside followed by the blonde.

'Cheryl!' Veronica called but there was no answer.

'Maybe she's in the shower?' Betty said looking at Veronica 'we should wait on the couch'.

Veronica just ignored Betty as she headed towards the stairs.

'V! She might not be alone' Betty hissed, she wasn't sure if Raven had stayed the night.

Veronica just laughed 'now that would be interesting'.

Betty shook her head as Veronica continued up the stairs but she followed her anyway.

Cheryl's bedroom door was open slightly but it sounded like there was a light whimpering coming from the room.

Veronica looked at Betty with a frown before slowly pushing the door open.

The two women poked their heads through the door but all they saw was a lump under the redheads sheets.

'Cheryl?' Veronica said taking a step closer into the room but she didn't get a response.

'Cheryl are you alright?' Betty asked this time, still no response.

The pair looked at each other, their faces full of concern before stepping towards the bed, Veronica to the left and Betty to the right.

They crawled into the bed wrapping their arms around the crying redhead now sandwiched in the middle of them both.

'Cheryl, what happened?' Veronica asked softly 'talk to us'.

'It's over, it's really over' Cheryl sobbed, the pain in her voice broke her friends hearts.

'What happened? Is it about yesterday?' Betty asked.

Cheryl nodded wiping her eyes as she sat up a little, Betty and Veronica still by her side.

'Tell us' Veronica pushed 'you're not alone, we're here for you'.

'Toni came by this morning and we got into a fight causing Raven to leave' Cheryl stuttered through her trembling lips.

'Raven spent the night here?' Betty asked.

'Yes but it wasn't what you think, she stayed on the couch, she knew I was upset after seeing the twins and Toni at the carnival' Cheryl clarified.

'Okay and then what happened?' Veronica pushed.

'I walked away into the kitchen but Toni followed, I ended up storming upstairs... I broke down' Cheryl admitted.

'Did Toni leave?' Betty asked.

'No we talked about us, more than we have since the night we broke up' Cheryl sniffled 'I want to keep what we said between us but I'm just so devastated. It felt so final'.

'Oh Cheryl' Veronica said bringing the redhead into a tight embrace 'everything will be alright'.

'I never wanted my life to be like this, I didn't want my children to come from a broken home, I'm such a failure' Cheryl cried.
