•Zaya Brown•
After school I went straight home. Took a shower, ate, and got to homework. Since Zhaye and I have most of our classes together I would wait for him so we could do it together. But by now he should have been here and would have made it half way through.
I decided to give it another 20 mins and start on other stuff while waiting for him. I realized that a hour pasted and he wasn't there. It was unusual of him but maybe he had to attend an emergency football practice. I sighed and did the rest of the homework.
A while later I heard the doorbell ring and I go downstairs to get it. I opened the door to see a beautiful lady brown skin with dimples smiling at me. "Hello." I said. "Hi! My name is Alexandra and I'm the neighbor next door. I know you guys moved in a couples months ago but welcome to the neighborhood." The lady said.
"Oh thank you come in." I said letting her in. "I'm going to call my mom make yourself at home I'll be right back." I said going upstairs to get my mom. I softly knocked at the door and went in. "Mom the neighbor came to welcome us come downstairs." I said. "Ok I'm coming go get her a drink." I nodded.
"What would like to drink?" "Water would be fine." I nodded went into the kitchen and got her a bottle of water and my mom came down. As I examined her features she looked like someone. That's when I realized. That's Zhaye's mom. They quickly took off and were talking like they were best friends. As I quietly went upstairs to my room.
I went to my room and continued with my homework and that's when I heard a rock hit my window and exactly knew who it was.
"Hello." I said. "Hey... I'm sorry I didn't make I had football practice and it was an emergency!" "That's ok you had stuff to do and I don't have a problem but next time-" she quickly stopped herself from saying anything further.
"Well first of you look like her and 2 she is nice like you." I said. "What if I was bad?" "I wouldn't want to get involved with you." "Ouch." She smiled. "Did she say her name?" "Yea she said her name was Alexandra." "Yup definitely my mom." "Well my mom and yours are already best friends." "What about us?" He asked.
I started feeling hot. Very hot but I said. "Friends I guess." I said. "Mhm friend's..." "We should start with homework." I suggested. "Yes absolutely!" "I already finished them so you can copy of them if you want and I will just do my other stuff.
I passed the books to Zhaye and he got them and we both started working in complete silence. Which was very unusual we were always saying something to each other. Well that night went in silence.
"I'm done. Thanks for the help." "All you did was copy. Did you even try to understand anything that was in the book?" "Well- I- uh.. um.. no I did not." "Well I am not about to teach you a lesson." "Why not?" "Because I said so but we have to sleep because we have school tomorrow." "Which will finally be Friday." "Yes this week has been long."
"Well goodnight Zaya." "Goodnight Zhaye." That's when the conversation ended and when we closed our windows and curtains.
•Zhaye Andrews•
I woke up and my first thought was about what happened last night. The thought of it was... weird. I did my hygiene and got ready for school. Once we got to school everything was fine but that was when we got to guitar class. Apparently the teacher had something special to tell us for the past 2 weeks.
I grabbed a guitar and sat down. As the bell rang the class was full as usual. "Come on class settle down I have major news for you all." The class got quite. "So the theater class and we will combine for the semester and make a play." He started and a few students looked excited.
"But, only 5 people that Ms Labov and I picked can participate. That means that you won't attend this class anymore for till the end of the semester but the way you 5 students behave and participate will be your grade. Basics an easy A if you ask me. So these are the list of the 5 people who will attend the play. Once I say your name please stand to the side." He picked a piece of paper on his desk and started calling out names.
I didn't care the words were coming in through one ear and coming out the other. "Mackenzie Mitchell, Adam Macalister, Emma Brooks, Zhaye Andrews, and Zaya Brown." He ended and I looked at him like something was wrong. On the other side Zaya looked like she saw a ghost. She eventually stood up and stood by the side with the other students and so did I.
