The next day you decided to have another walk in the garden, making sure that none of the plants was out of place or any weeds had started to grow, that being your job as the main gardener of Rivendell. You were fascinated by plants and growing things as well as other subjects.

As you patrolled the garden Lindir watched you, worried you would do something like you did yesterday, he looked up and down from his work, making sure you did not need his assistance. Thankfully you did not and soon you walked into the garden room which housed many different plants and seeds. Slowly you began work in growing some Elanor which were star-shaped flowers healing from Lothlórien and also growing kingsfoil to restock the healer's stock.

When you fished you cleaned the dirt from your hands but suddenly had an idea, going back to your plants you picked out a blooming Lissuin which smelt sweet and would bring the heart at ease. Slowly going back into the main building you sneaked up the stairs and toward Lindir's study, putting your eye to the keyhole, none. Slowly you opened the door and tiptoed over to his desk and placed down the plant before leaving again and returning to your room. You wondered if Lindir would like it or would deny the gift, you hoped he wouldn't. You sat at your desk and looked over your notebooks about random things and opened a book and started to read.

Lindir returned to his office after a short meeting with the marchwarden and immediately noticed the flower sitting on his desk, it had already made the room sweet-smelling with its scent. Lindir raised his eyebrow and went closer, picking it up in his hands and analysing it for a second, but then he smiled, realising who it was from and that it was Lissuin. Lindir smelt the flower, his hair slightly moving as he did so before he went over to his private quarters and placed it at his bedside table. Admiring it for a few more seconds he returned to his desk and started his work, however, the question of why you would put a plant in his room picked his mind. You placed it there as a sign of love was out of the question, it must be you thanking him for making sure you were alright from yesterday. This conclusion did not sit well with the wise elf who knew it would be more than that, however, his staunch belief that you did not find him as a love interest stopped him from thinking far. Lindir shook his head, his mind telling him to return to his work.

You went down to dinner but noticed that Lindir was not there, so you decided to find him, not wanting your favourite elf to go hungry. Quietly you knocked on the door and after a few moments, the figure of Lindir stood in the doorway.

"Lady (y/n)" he said. "Do you require anything?"

"Oh no" you said, smiling. "I am just informing you that it is dinner"

"Oh yes, of course" he said, you stepped backwards and Lindir left his office, you saw that the plant was gone and your heart dropped, had Lindir disregarded it? You felt worried and hurt as you walked with Lindir, maybe he really did not like you? Or maybe he had moved it? You had no idea and the thoughts plagued your mind as you sat and began to eat. You needed to ask Lindir about this so slowly you plucked up the courage and couched slightly.

"Lindir, did you like my gift?" you asked quietly, your heart beating.

"The Lissuin?" he asked. "It was very thoughtful of you to gift me it"

"I just saw you had moved it off your desk" you said, frowning slightly.

"Oh" Lindir said, "I moved it to where there would be more sunlight" he explained, worried he had hurt your feelings by mistake.

"Oh I see" you said, your heart going to ease. "I am glad you liked it" you murmured. You stole a quick look at Lindir who was looking at you but looked away when your eyes met.

You both were quiet for the rest of the meal and said your goodbyes before going your separate ways. For the rest of the elves at the table, they had a new story to gossip about, noticing your and Lindir's reactions and smiles through the dinner. Half of Rivendell now were theorising about you and him out of earshot, you two of course not knowing about the development and keeping to your shy liking of each other.

Lindir returned to his rooms, did a few more bits of paperwork before slowly getting undressed and placing each article of clothing neatly away. His eyes caught the flower and he picked it up, just looking at and thinking of you. Lindir sighed. "Stop it" he murmured, placing it down and getting under his covers. "She will not share your feelings" Lindir sighed and fell asleep to dream of nothing.
