At dusk, Mei Li returns home after wandering and meeting her friends for the whole day. Her father was waiting for her to return in the Hall since Wang Lei left.
"Ughh, so tiring after walking around the whole day." Mei Li said as she was tired.
"Where were you?" Asked Tian Li in anger.
"Dad! I ju-" As Mei Li was saying her father cuts.
"Kneel Down." Tian Li said with extreme anger.
While she was kneeling down Aunty Tang couldn't do anything except seeing her kneel down because no one dares to say anything when Tian Li is angry. After Mei Li kneels down Tian Li asks her questions with an angry and overbearing voice.
"Where were you the whole day?" Asked Tian Li with anger in his voice.
"Dad I was just hanging out with an old friend of mine." Said Mei Li in fear of getting punished.
"Nonsense, you weren't hanging out with your friends but ran away so that you can't get married, right. Tell me what was your intention of going out of house." Said Tian Li.
"Dad, I really went out to meet my friend." Said Mei Li with extreme fear.
"You Brat! How dare you lie to me. Don't I know what your intentions for going out were. It seems that I'll have to punish you mercilessly so that you won't dare to make a bold move till your wedding." Says Tian Li while picking up his stick.
"Dad! Please! No! I beg you for mercy dad. I'll do as you say and get married. Please dad, don't punish me." Mei Li said begging for mercy.
"Dear, don't beat her. Just let it go." Said Mei Li's stepmother with a scheming smile on her face.
"Don't pity her. She deserves this and even a harder punishment for her wrong doing." Says Tian Li. He further says
"You are house arrested for 3 days. You'll get locked up in your room till your wedding." Says Tian Li and starts to beat her until she gets bruised and start to bleed a little.
After receiving the punishment Mei Li was taken away and got locked in her room.
"(Why is this happening to me. I have never done anything wrong then why all the bad things happen to me. I can't cancel the wedding nor I can divorce that person also I can't run away or else my dad will beat me to death. Why? Why is my life like this? Life has always been cruel to me.)" Mei Li thinks after being locked up in her room while silently crying inside.
Three days of house arrest, in these three days Mei Li persuades herself to accept the life she is living and stop dreaming about getting freedom someday.
