When Cameron got off of work, she was mentally exhausted. She dragged herself to her fifteen-year-old black Toyota and just sat in her car for a moment.
Working for a bigger company with better resources and in a new field was something that she wasn't ready for, although, deep down, Cameron knew that was just the negative part of her talking. During the brainstorming session, everyone was coming up with new, beautiful ideas that, with her notebook and pen, Cameron could barely keep up with. Every idea thrown out produced newer, even better ones. It produced more questions and more theories and more inventive ways to market for their campaign.
After that was over, Selene had Cameron type up what everything said and draft an email for the entire team with everything organized. It was a struggle to get to the email service that the company used, and then other staff members started writing notes and having Cameron start researching trends and data. It was so much more fast-paced than she was used to and though it kept her mind off of things, pretty soon her mind was going faster than her fingers and she was having a hard time keeping up.
A knock on her window startled Cameron out of her thoughts, and when she looked out she saw that it was Selene. It was almost seven, and the two of them were the last to leave the B Team office. The A Team was still working, getting ready for their upcoming campaign. Cameron rolled her window down.
"It was different, wasn't it?" Selene asked, a soft smile on her face. She pushed her glasses up a bit.
Cameron returned the smile. "It was," she said. "Even though it was exhausting, it was also fun."
"Good to hear," Selene said, her smile growing wider. "I hate to bother you on your way home, but there are a few things I want to say about your performance today. Nothing bad. I just wanted to say that you kept up as well as you could and I could tell that you're willing to learn. I'm glad to have you on my team, even if it seems it happened at the worst possible time."
Cameron's spirits lifted at that. She still felt frazzled from work, but she was happy to hear Selene's praise.
"With that being said," Selene continued, "I appreciate your use of paper and pencil, but in this environment, we'll need you to be a bit faster." Selene reached into the large bag that Cameron just noticed that the woman carried and pulled out a white box. "With everything being so hectic earlier, I wasn't able to give you this. It's a tablet that we have all staff use. It comes loaded with templates, our team's personal Cloud, and other features that will help you while here or out running errands for us. Set it up tonight, get to know its features, and I hope to see you bright and early tomorrow morning."
With that, Selene and her giant bag were gone.
When Cameron arrived home, one of her moms was in the kitchen washing dishes while the other was sitting in the living room, trying to find something to watch on TV.
"Hi Ma," Cameron said, giving her mother a kiss on the cheek when she passed through the kitchen. Used to the routine, her mother leaned in as Cameron walked past.
