The following weekend Cameron was desperate to spend some quality time by herself. After she last spoke with Elliot, her team had been inundated with work after someone leaked B Team's sample palettes to social media, gaining the company both backlash and praise. Alyssa, ever the PR expert, spun the story in a way that benefited the company, but everyone else was getting to the bottom of who leaked the shades and the names. Reuben Miller, A Team's PR expert, was sent over by Elliot to help.
A pale redhead that was tall enough to have to duck into rooms, Reuben was essentially a puppy in a grown man's body. Shy and relatively easy to fluster, he was receptive to compliments and didn't intrude much into A Team's affairs. Cameron could see in Alyssa's posture that week that she was annoyed that someone from A Team had to help her handle a problem, but Reuben, who had gone to Haven University and graduated cum laude with double majors in Technical Writing and Marketing, was a pro and helped Cameron and Alyssa whip up a statement in less than twenty minutes.
"It's nothing," he said after Cameron thanked him profusely. "You already had the bare bones of the statement. We just needed to embellish it a little."
"But really," Cameron had said. "This is a godsend. You are a godsend. Right, Alyssa?"
Alyssa had been handling the brunt of the media nightmare, which was why Reuben had been called in to help. She'd rolled her eyes and turned back to her phone, which had been pinging with notifications non-stop. Reuben had deflated.
"Don't worry about her," Cameron had told him. "Once everything calms down and she's in a better mood, I'm sure she'll thank you."
Reuben had nodded at the time, but Cameron had noticed that he had seemed a bit down for the rest of that week. The only time his mood seemed to brighten was when he saw Phillipa, which made Cameron suspicious.
Cameron sent the statement to Alyssa, who immediately created templates and posted it to all social media.
Thankfully, by early Friday morning, everything had calmed down. Alyssa had ended up thanking Reuben and apologizing to him for being rude, Devika had come to B Team's office and thanked everyone for a job well done in handling the crisis, and Cameron could finally take a breather. Between her, Alyssa, and Selene, their overtime hours were insane. They'd figured out who leaked the palette—someone from the lab who'd gotten excited about the new shades and sent a picture to her friend, who'd posted it online—and the person had been suspended for two weeks without pay and transferred to another area, where they weren't allowed to see the upcoming palettes.
All of this drama, though, meant that B Team had to come up with new ideas for the palettes. Most of the world had already seen the shades on social media, so now it was time for the team to think about how this would affect them in the long run.
Thankfully the samples were still in the preliminary stages and hadn't been approved by Devika, so everyone knew that the leaked palette might not even see the light of day.
