Y/N wasn't a clingy girl, not by a long shot. She was independent and self-serving, determined and ambitious. That's why when she started following Karl around like a lost puppy, it confused everyone.

Lunch periods were only spent together on Fridays, every other day of the week dedicated to hanging with their own friends, but for the past three weeks, Y/N held Karl's hand throughout the entire break.

Karl wasn't complaining, his love language was physical affection, but he knew it wasn't Y/N's. Hers was gift giving, the amount of expensive luxuries Karl had piled in his room proving it to be true. Y/N hated hugs and hand holding, hence why they rarely ever did it. These past three weeks confused Karl immensely to say the least.

This girl just got into high school this year, a freshie who has no where else to go. She had the same interests as Karl's group of friends, so of course she was invited to hang. Her name was Katt and her hair was dyed neon green with black streaks. She always had a new cut from skating that was bandaged, bragging that it was gonna leave a killer scar.

Y/N had no problems with girls being in the group, and why would she? These were Karl's friends and they were there way before her. She had no right to dictate who her boyfriend did and didn't talk to. Though Katt was a different story since pushed boundaries constantly.

Everyone knew Karl and Y/N were dating. It was a no brainer. Ever since the summer of their sophomore year they had been hanging out and they eventually started talking more intimately. Their relationship was no secret.

Katt must have had brain damage, Y/N thought, or she must not be getting enough nutrients from the poor people food she ate. With a sigh, the preppy girl pushed her thoughts away, remembering what Karl said about 'curving her classism.'

"What's wrong, Princess?" Karl looked over at his girlfriend as they continued walking back from the pizza place they just went to for lunch. Before she even got to answer, Katt cut into the conversation.

"Her ponytail is probably pulled too tight. Ain't that right, Princess?" The freshman mocked the nickname with a snicker, gaining a couple chuckles from the group.

"No, it's fine, Kitten. Thank you for asking though. I'm sure your grubby little hands could've been put to better use fixing my hair rather than stuffing your face," Y/N shot back, making sure to use the name Katt hated so much.

That dragged cackles from the friend group, Alex especially doubling over before resting a hand on Y/N's shoulder and telling her how good the comeback was. Although Y/N didn't fit in with them all the time, the group agreed she sure was fiery. That pissed Katt off. Y/N was supposed to be an outsider among them; a good-for-nothing, silver-spoon-sucking brat who didn't deserve Karl.

Getting upset, the younger girl surged ahead and shoulder-checked Y/N, rushing back to the school in a fit of rage. The teen with money shrugged and continued to listen to the group, going back to being quiet once the annoying freshman was gone.

After school, Y/N would usually walk Karl home before calling an Uber to bring her home or to a friend's house, but on certain days when Karl and Alex worked right after school, Y/N would join them and hang out for the duration of their shift. It's been a thing since the boys snagged the job a year ago, so when Katt decided to start joining their walks to the gas station, Y/N's testiness became more inflamed.

"Did you guys have Jennings for science? God, he is the worst!" Katt whined and played with the yo-yo she always carried with her.

"Oh, yeah! Me and Y/N had that class together. That was before she even knew I existed!" Karl laughed and pushed his girlfriend playfully, receiving a hard shove back.

"Yes! You and that one kid would always work together, no matter what!" Y/N threw her head back and wheezed, looking back on the memory.

"Well that's because there were only rich kids in that class! I didn't wanna work with them," Karl made a feigned face of disgust, making his girl scoff.

"Not all of us are bad! Just a couple!" Y/N countered before sticking out her tongue.

"More like just one," Alex spoke up and sent a smile Y/N's way.

"Or none," Katt mumbled, but everyone heard it. Deciding not to start a fight before a long shift for the boy's, Y/N backed down.

Alex opened the door and held it ajar for Karl and Y/N, going to follow them through like usual, but Katt decided to wedge herself between Alex and the entrance.

"Oh, you gonna buy something, Katt?" Alex asked while trailing in after, doing some basic things by the counter before getting settled.

"I was gonna stay and hang!" She chirped, a big smile on her face.

"Bossman doesn't like loitering," Karl called out from further in the store, probably restocking a couple things.

"Y/N gets to stay!" Katt pouted and crossed her arms over her chest like a toddler.

"I'm an intern," Y/N quipped blandly, a chocolate bar half in her mouth as she carried a couple boxes over to Karl.

"Why can't I help?" The younger of the two girls asked again, patience running thin.

"Because it's already been established with the owner that I help out during Karl's shifts. I don't ask for any money and I actually do my job. That's why," the older groaned and rolled her eyes.

"I don't want money either! And I will work!" Katt stated while still trying to prove herself.

As much as Y/N wanted to use her dad's status to her advantage, she remembered what Karl said and piped down, thinking of another way she could counter the argument.

"Four workers is too many. It's usually only two when Y/N is with Karl and occasionally three when I'm working. We can't have you here, sorry," Alex came to the rescue and gestured to the door with a curt nod.

"But if I could just talk to the owner-"

"Seniors aren't for freshies, Kitten. Run along now," Y/N cut her off with a sneer.

Fuming, Katt left the building without another word, too embarrassed by the words hurled at her.

"Well that was fun," Karl snorted before going back to stacking shelves.

"Very," Alex hummed in amusement.

"I didn't do anything wrong!" Y/N whined and looked over at Karl, hoping he would understand where she was coming from.

"No you didn't, just shattered a little ego," Karl snickered.

"Without being classist! I'm getting better!" The girl jumped for joy while both boys rolled their eyes playfully and pretended like she didn't say that.
