Owen's POV:
As soon as I whispered those words, I regretted them. Carter froze, her hand on the doorknob. I averted my eyes, closing them and telling myself I had made a huge mistake. Carter was a mask of shock, her beautiful chocolate eyes gazing down at the tiled floor. I could hear her breathing heavily as her grip tightened on the doorknob. I sighed and nervously ran my hands through my hair. Carter turned slightly and looked at me questioningly.
"Get better, ok Owen?" She whispered as she turned the doorknob and strolled out of the room.
I nodded, even though she was already gone. Then, the nurse walked in and smiled at me. "Your heart rate's gone up, are you feeling alright?"
I nodded, my mind still flushed with the thought of how innocent Carter had looked when I had told her I loved her.
"Just try to relax."
The nurse was annoying me now. She would forever go on about how I needed to relax. How could I relax when I have a bloomin' hole in my side?
All I could think about was Carter. When was she going home? Would it be safe for her to go home? Are her parents at the house now? Have they heard the news? What are the police going to do about this?
I soon drifted off to sleep, thinking about knives and killers. I awoke screaming a few times, but I fell asleep again within a minute or two.
In the morning, my nurse gave me some medication and II had an examination. They told me that the wound wasn't as bad as they thought it was going to be. They said it was healing very quickly, so I was allowed to go for a little walk around the hospital- on crutches of course. When I was at the hospital cafeteria, I saw Carter sitting at one of the tables with a girl who looked about thirteen- so around three years younger. They were both smiling and chatting and had trays of food in front of them. I went over to them and sat down. I forgot about what I had last said to Carter when I saw her. I suddenly remembered, and started shifting in my seat because of the awkwardness.
"Hi, Oh my gosh! You're up!" Carter exclaimed.
I nodded and smiled. "Yeah, I should be going home in a few days. If I'm lucky, maybe even tomorrow."
Carter smiled. "Want some breakfast?" She picked up a tray and got in line for me. She was really considerate. One of the things I love about her!
She came back with a bowl of cereal, a banana and a glass of orange juice. She plopped the tray in front of me and continued to chew on her toast and jam. The girl sitting in front of me was eating a bowl of cornflakes and drinking some kind of juice. She had long brown hair and deep greeny grey eyes. Freckles dotted her face and she had a few stitches on her neck and her forehead.
"This is Ava."
Ava smiled at me and then returned back to her breakfast. "Owen." I said as I gulped down my juice. "What happened to you?"
She gulped. "I...um...ran away from home and then got hit by a car. So, I'm in here for mental issues as well as physical."
I froze mid bite. It looked as if Ava had already told Carter because she was silently chewing her toast while looking slightly sad.
"Why'd you run away? Uh...I'm sorry, that's none of my business." I said.
Ava shook her head. "That's ok. I... Uhh... My parents divorced, so I..."
I nodded my head. I didn't need her to share more than she was comfortable with.
Lydia's POV
I ran into the hospital and checked in. I saw Carter within ten minutes. She was sitting in her room on her phone, watching videos. As soon as she caught sight of me, she dropped her phone and sprinted to me, crushing me in a hug.
"...Air...I need air..." I murmured. Carter let me go instantly and giggled. "Are you alright? I heard what happened! Any serious injuries?"
Carter sighed. "Well, not for me, but Owen's pretty messed up."
"But he is going to be ok though right?" I asked, concerned.
"I hope so." She mumbled.
"Well, tell me! Did they arrest the guy or not?"
Carter shook her head. "But, it was the guy from the party."
"What!?"
"Lyds, calm down..."
"I will not calm down. This guy's a freakin' stalker. You have to call the cops!"
At that moment Owen walked in. I gasped. What happened to him? He was on crutches, and he looked in a lot of pain.
"Hey Lydia. Great to see you, but... uhh...could I have a moment alone with Carter?"
I nodded... Serious stuff...ok...?
Carter Roses' POV:
Owen looked down at me with softness in his eyes. He sat down on the edge of the bed. I followed. Then, he snaked his arm around my waist- something I wasn't expecting, but I ... liked it.
"Have they caught him Carter? Please, tell me they have." He mumbled.
"Actually, I don't even think they're onto the case yet. I told them it was no big deal." I murmured, ashamed. I didn't know why I told the police that it was no big deal. I didn't want the drama I guess. This obviously made Owen upset. He didn't want to get hurt again.
"I'm sorry. I know you're worried about getting hurt again, but I-"
"No Carter, I'm worried about you getting hurt again." He interrupted me.
I stared up at him in shock. Why would he care? I didn't even get hurt. Just a few scratches. He's the one he should be worried about.
Suddenly, he bent over as if he was going to kiss me. Oh, he was. He's going to kiss me!
But before he could, Lydia burst in smiling. "Guys the-"
We quickly pulled away, but Own still left his arm around my waist. Lydia saw it and gaped. She bit her lip and looked up at me. "Carter, the doctor wants to talk to you in room GB."
