Three days couldn't come soon enough for anyone. Cat and Mellohi were retrieved during that time, and everyone picked a flower to be placed on Tommy's tombstone. Ranboo even told Tubbo about his suspicions about Dream. The day before the funeral, Tubbo ran into Ghostbur.
"Hey, Tubbo! How have you been?" "Oh, hi, Ghostbur. Things could be better." "What do you mean?" "I've been feeling kinda down lately." "I've noticed everyone has been sad. Why?" Did he not know? "Ghostbur, Tommy is dead." "What? When? Why hasn't anyone told me?" The younger flinched. Of course, he'd react like that. "H-he died a few days ago. We're holding a funeral for him tomorrow." "What can I do?" The ghost tried to place his hands on the hybrid's shoulders. Tubbo was taken aback. "Ah-well-everyone's bringing a flower-" "I can do that! And, do people like my blue?" "I think so-" "I'll do that too!" Regaining his composure, Tubbo nodded. "See you tomorrow, then."
The day finally arrived. Nearly everyone was in front of Tommy's dirt hut. Ghostbur was going around, giving his blue to anyone who will accept. Most people thought this was a sweet gesture, while those who weren't in the know about the dye's 'special properties' were confused.
The sound of heavy footsteps stopped everyone in their places, causing them to turn to the perpetrator. "Technoblade, you made it! Were you invited too?" Ghostbur ran-well floated- to the Piglin hybrid. "Of course. I don't think I'd be able to live it down if I didn't," the older one chuckled. "Come on! We're about to start!" "I'm right behind you."
Slowly, everyone else returned to their mingling. Meanwhile, Techno found the one person he was willing to talk to. Though, spotting him wasn't difficult with his green and white striped hat and his raven-like wings. "Hey, Dadza." The wanderer smirked at the nickname. "Hey."
"How ya holdin' up?" "Not very well." "That's what I'd figured you'd say. I can't imagine how hard this is on you." "Yeah. It hasn't been a year since Wilbur died." "Hi, Dad. You look like you could use more blue." "Thanks. Oh, it looks like the memorial is starting."
Dream stepped up to the podium. His mask was moved over so that everyone could see his face. Most people were wondering why Tubbo wasn't the one up there. After all, he was Tommy's best friend. Well, it wouldn't be too long until they found out why.
"Hello, everyone. I'm sorry that we had to meet under these circumstances. It wasn't Tommy's time." Tubbo felt disgusted. If what Ranboo said was true, then Dream drove Tommy to suicide.
"I think the person who first came across the scene should speak first. Tubbo, would you please step up?" The young Satyr walked past everyone, with Ranboo behind in case things went south. As he looked out, Tubbo couldn't hold back the tears anymore. His roommate escorted him off the stage, whispering "it's alright, I'm here."
Nobody blamed the boy for breaking down like that. After all, he just lost his best friend. With a sigh, Dream continued. "That's understandable. Would anyone else like to say something?" "I will."
A few people gasped. Phil was walking up to the front. What would he say?
"I-" Phil paused and collected his thoughts. "Tommy was far too young. He was forced into war at such an early age. If only I'd been there for him more like a good father would have. But," he laughed dryly, "it's too late for 'would'ves' and 'could'ves'. I remember when he was a kid, he wanted me to train him. He didn't stop asking me for days. I just wish I was there to say one last goodbye." With that, the winged man stepped off the stage and back to his only living son.
"Anyone else?" Dream looked across the crowd, but no one stepped up. "Alright, then let's begin the burial." A two-by-two-by-one block hole was dug, and a double chest was placed at the bottom. The items that were found at Tommy's 'death' site, along with Cat and Mellohi were placed in the chest. Dirt was placed back in the hole.
"Wait! Won't Tommy want those when he's back?" Tubbo hesitated. Tommy might come back as a ghost. "We can retrieve them when the time comes," Techno replies, trying to comfort his brother. "A-alright."
The burial was completed with a block of cobblestone placed at the head of the dug-out site, and a sign was placed that said "RIP TommyInnit 2004-2020" Everyone took their turns to place a flower at the headstone.
Tubbo had an orchid. Ranboo placed an allium. Ghostbur put down a cornflower. Most of the others placed poppies and tulips. Finally, it was time for Techno to place his flower. He brought a peony.
Once everyone was done paying their respects, Techno decided to go home. "You're heading out already?" Phil asked. "Yeah, I don't wanna overstay my welcome." "Alright, stay safe." With a nod, the hybrid walked off.
After that, most of the others left, leaving only Tubbo, Ranboo, and Phil. The immortal man walked over to the two teens. The younger of the two must've heard the footsteps of the man approaching them, because he turned around and hugged his father figure, mumbling "I'm sorry" over and over.
Surprised at first, the winged man was quick to comfort the crying boy. "Hey, hey, it's not your fault." "B-but if I didn't exile Tommy, w-we wouldn't be here." "You were caught between a rock and a hard place. You did what you thought was right." "The others had a plan. We-we would ask Tech to deal with Dream for us. I-I should've listened. I should've done something. I was so scared. I didn't want to go to war," Tubbo sobbed.
The older man didn't know what to say, so he didn't say anything. They stayed like that for a while, with Phil rubbing the brunette's back.
(981 words. Okay, things are picking back up after this chapter. I promise.)
