> Chapter 2: Nichi's POV<
"Raichu, use Thunderbolt!", Volkner commanded.
"Empoleon, deflect it with Metal Claw!", I yelled as he effortlessly neutralized the attack and charged at Raichu, delivering a direct hit. My Empoleon was exhausted but he wasn't going down without a fight. Raichu was down on his last leg as well, so the next move was going to decide the match.
"You are clever, I give you that. But I'm not letting you win so easily. Just like your Pokemon, Raichu and I have a bond that cannot be severed!", Volkner stated.
"So I guess we'll just have to see who's bond is stronger Huh?!", I retaliated. "Empoleon, use Flash Cannon!", I commanded.
"Raichu, use Thunder!", Volkner countered.
Both pokemon fired their attacks, full power. The attacks collided in the middle. My heart was doing summersaults. This match could very well make or break me. But I refuse to lose altogether.
"Enough is enough! Let's end this Empoleon!", I yelled. Empoleon pushed through with the little willpower he had left and overpowered Raichu's attack. The Flash Cannon made contact with the Raichu, which rendered it unconscious.
"Raichu is unable to battle, the winner is Empoleon. And the match goes to Nichi from Floroama Town.", the elegant old woman stated.
"Yes! Empoleon we did it!", I said cheering so loudly. I ran and gave him a huge hug and planted a kiss on his cheek. Empoleon blushed wildly. "Woohoo!! Go Empoleon!!", Alice cheered from the sideline with her Roserade.
"Thank you so much for your courageous battle. Get some rest.", I said returning him to his Pokeball. I then turned to Volkner who was petting his Raichu.
"You did well old friend. Take a rest.", he said softly. "Rai Rai.", it responded weakly before going into the Pokeball. He then got up and hastily walked over to me. "So, the other gym leaders were right about you. Here, take this Beacon Badge." I held out my hand to receive my final gym badge. It was beautiful!! Well...Maybe not, but it was to me considering this meant I was eligible for the Sinnoh League.
Alice ran up to me and gave me a big hug. "Congratulations Nichi! You did it!", she exclaimed.
"I couldn't have done it without my hardworking Pokemon.", I replied humbly.
"You're running late Volkner.", the old woman interrupted. "You're right.", he said before he turned to me.
"Nichi, we must leave now.", Volkner demanded.
"Ummm...Is this like you asking me out or something?", I replied with a reluctant look on my face.
"This is no time for jokes! We have to go now!", Volkner says firmly.
"Have to go where?"
"Here", Volkner says extending his hand to give me a packet. "Everything you need to know is in here. C'mon. We must hurry."
I look back at Alice who has a puzzled look on her face, much like mine.
I looked back at Volkner. The look in his eyes screamed desperation.
"Ok. I'll come with you.", I said still unsure of myself. I then turned to Alice and gave her an apologetic smile.
"Alice, I'll see you at the Grand Festival."
"No problem girl. Do your thing."
"We have to go now.", Volkner urged.
"Right. Let's go Glameow."
