As I was walking, I saw an ice cream shop that was filled with little kids buying ice cream. My mind suddenly remembered the day Mom bought ice cream for Fred and me during our first time here.
flashback
"Mum. Look" Fred pointed at the ice cream shop. I pulled mum's sleeve as we drag her to the ice cream man. "Mom, please. Can we have one." mum looked hesitant but gave in as we gave her our innocent pout. "Alright, alright, You two can have them but only one alright and don't tell your sibling." We cheered and ran to bought each an ice cream. We were happy back then when there is no war and death.
end flashback
I smiled at the memory while looking at the kids. How peaceful and happy they are now that everything is over. As I was about to walk away when I notice a little girl looking at the kids. She looked sad. Something that I will look like now if I was her age. I walk towards her and approach her in a kindly matter. "Hey, love." She got straddled and scared for some reason. "Hey it's ok. Where are your parents". She didn't reply as she looked around. I give her a friendly smile and crouch down to her height. "Is anyone here with you?" She nods her head as in a yes.
"Do you know where they are?" She also nods again. "Then what are you doing here?". She pointed at the ice cream shop and frowns at me. "I wanted an ice cream but my aunt said no" I gave a little laugh at her response. "May I ask why?" she smiled and she seems to get a little comfortable with me. "Because already have one this week" I fake gasp at her answer which makes her giggle. "What about this? How about we both get ice cream and I walk you back to your aunt. But keep this as our little secret" I winked at her but the girl frowns and shakes her head. "My aunt said 'stranger danger'. I can't accept that" Wow. Her aunt must be someone who really teaches kids safety. I wouldn't blame her though.
"Hey kid, how about this. If I want to kidnap you. I wouldn't be chatting with you like this. I would have appeared both of us in my dungeon." I dramatically said. She let out a big laugh and finally agrees to it. I bought one for each and we sat on a bench and enjoying our treat with little talk. little talk as in 'what is your favorite' or 'have you tried this candy'. Honestly, what can you ask an 8-year-old girl? After we're done, we went to find her aunt who turns out have a shop near somewhere. "I haven't asked your name yet. What is your name anyway"? She does this thinking gesture and pointed at me. "Tell me your name first. Then I will tell you mine," she said scrunching her nose. I scrunch my nose back and keep walking to the destination. "My name is George." she noted her head "My name is Katarina but you can call me Kat". I like this girl's company. We walk and talk more, well actually more as I walk and she was just skipping through the busy lane.
As we approach near to my shop, I frown at her as she stops. "That is where my aunt lives," Kat said pointing her little finger to the bakery shop across mine. The little girl drags me inside as I was hit with a sweet and vanilla smell. Arya was busy dealing with a customer while we were waiting for Kat's aunt who turns out to be Arya. "Aunt Arya!" Kat ran towards Arya as she lifted her from the floor. "There's my favorite niece. go upstairs. Grandma will pick you up" Arya cheered as she kisses her cheeks. "Aunt Arya. I meet a new friend. George." She said while pointing at me.
Arya saw me standing there with my hands in the pockets of my work robes. "George, I didn't see you there." She said something into her ears as Kat ran upstairs to her apartment. "Thank you for taking care of her. Come sit. Do you need anything?" I shake my head "no, no Arya. It's ok. I have to get to my shop anyway" I gave her a warm smile and she returns it. "I really liked her company. She'ssmart". people were chattering in the background as we were talking "yeah she is." We goy into a little awkward silence which gave me more social anxiety. "I'm just going to go. then. so. umm. Bye," I said and walk out of the bakery to my joke shop. Oh, Dear Merlin. That was awkward. I went into my office and continued doing my product to get my mind off something
