After a couple hours of sleep last night, Marinette dragged herself through the motions of her morning routine. Breakfast, changing into clean clothes, feeding Tikki, changing again because she'd put on her pajama bottoms back on...
The thought of having to give a stranger a tour of Dupont high school made her anxious. What was she supposed to say about the school? She didn't know anything interesting about it.
"Why didn't Mr. Damocles choose someone else? Like, Max or Alya? Max knows every little interesting fact and Alya is great with words- Oh! Alya! I forgot to call her!" Marinette said as she quickly reached for her phone. She texted her friend telling her to meet her outside the bakery before going to school.
After putting her books inside her backpack and grabbing her purse, she climbed down to the bakery and yelled a quick goodbye to her parents who were already hard at work.
She opened the door and walked out except she crashed into her best friend.
"Hey girl," she said laughing as she adjusted her glasses.
"Alya! I'm so sorry I didn't call, my bakery told me," she shook her head, "I mean my parents told me I had to help out here and before I knew it I-"
Alya chuckled and shook her head. "Girl it's cool, we couldn't get into the movies anyway, it was packed!" She said waving a dismissive hand, "all those calls were us trying to tell you there was no point in you going all the way there."
Marinette exhaled and one of the knots in her stomach suddenly disappeared. "I'm sorry I didn't pick up though."
"It's cool, just make sure to not have your phone on vibrate anymore girl!"
Marinette giggled and nodded.
The soft wind of late November blew making Marinette and Alya zip up their puffy jackets.
As soon as they arrived to school, Marinette heard the buzz coming from everyone huddled in the courtyard with the news of a new student at Françoise Dupont.
Alya made her way over to her boyfriend Nino, who as usual was hanging out with Adrien.
Marinette lingered back before following her best friend."What are you waiting for Marinette?" Tikki whispered from her purse.
Marinette looked down at her kwami and took a deep breath. She walked over to them and felt her legs getting weaker with every step she took closer to Adrien. But suddenly, he was all she could see, they were in a field, roses everywhere. Adrien turned to look at her and smiled, he stretched his hand as he floated closer and closer...
"Marinette?" Adrien's voice echoed.
Marinette shook her head, her daydream faded as she realized she was standing beside Alya staring at Adrien with the goofy smile that always appeared when he was around.
"Ah! Nino, Alien-Adrien! Sorry... didn't get much sleep last night," Marinette said as she straightened up, she felt her cheeks burn up as her three friends chuckled.
"We were just coming up with ideas about how to welcome Cristina to Françoise Dupont," Nino explained.
''And Paris for that matter," Alya pointed out, "she's from another continent! How cool is that?''
Marinette raised an eyebrow, "who's Cristina?"
"She's the new student. She'll start attending Dupont in a few days,'' Adrien said turning his green gaze at her.
''I'm not sure Mr. Damocles made the best choice in choosing Lila for the tour though, considering she's been here for a few months only," Alya admitted.
