"Tikki spots off!"Marinette let out a heavy sigh as she rubbed her neck with an aching hand. She jumped onto her bed from her balcony and hugged one of her pink pillows- it smelled of Adrien's latest fragrance.
The sky was beginning to look rather beautiful, as it always did at this time of day, however, she rarely got to enjoy it. Hawk Moth had been akumatizing Parisian after Parisian multiple times a day now which resulted in Marinette missing school, family time, and sometimes, Adrien time, which meant staring at him from the second floor of Françoise Dupont High School while he was at fencing practice, most of the time, sadly, with Kagami.
"That villain was a tough one huh?" Tikki asked as she laid beside her on a pillow.
"Real tough, I thought it'd never end," Marinette yawned. It was only seven o'clock, but her body ached everywhere, and begged for a cold shower and her bed. As her eyes became heavier with sleep, a knock on her trapdoor made her sit up quickly."Marinette?" Her mother called out.
"Come in!" She replied, "hide Tikki." Her kwami snuggled under her blanket and she sighed longingly as she stared at her bed while she climbed down.
The trapdoor opened and Sabine, her mother, entered with an envelope in her hand which had already been cut open.
"I didn't hear you come in, how was the movie?"
Marinette's eyes widened and she smiled, "the movie! Right! It was bad, I mean it was good, but I've seen better," she said waving her hands around.
Alya! The girls! The movie! She mentally jumped off a cliff and promised herself she would call the groupchat later to apologize.
"I'm glad, I'll have to tell your father about going to see it, which one was it again?" She asked as she sat on her daughter's office chair.
"Uh, the one with the uh... the girl and, uh, the boy with the girl and... hey what's that?" She asked pointing at the letter nervously.
"Oh! It's a letter from Mr. Damocles. He chose you and another student to give the new student at Dupont a tour of the school some time this week," she said with a smile, "I'm very proud of you sweetie."
A new student? At this time of the school year?"Oh, that's great!" Marinette said as she stifled a yawn.
Her mother nodded and left the letter on her desk. "We should make her some macaroons! Perhaps croissants... or éclairs! We've been trying out a new recipe-"
"I'd love to mom, but right now I'm honestly wiped." A yawn escaped her.
"Oh that's alright, your father and I will have everything ready. Goodnight sweetie."
Sabine kissed the top of her daughter's head and climbed down the ladder, closing the trapdoor carefully after her. Marinette reached for her phone and shrieked as she saw the missed calls from her friends. She climbed up to her bed and looked at the sky through the skylight. She was about to return Alya's call when she saw Cat Noir flying through the sky, a high pitched scream coming out of him- she'd have to tease him about that some other time.
She sat up and left her phone on her bed. "Cat Noir?"
"Looks like you won't be going to sleep any time soon," Tikki said as she came out from under the blankets.
Marinette sighed and looked at her friend's contact on her phone. "Guess my bed and the calls will have to wait."
She arranged her bed so it would look as if she was under the covers, in case her parents came in, and jumped up to her balcony. She looked over the railing and saw Cat Noir running through the streets as he warned people to get out of the way. Marinette's eyes followed the direction he was running in and gasped. A girl with autumn looking leaves for hair and green spiky vines for a dress was literally rooted to the ground, staring menacingly at him.
