"Amy?!" Jo looked at her sister whose face had matured, she had truly become the most beautiful of them all. She embraced her sister and cried, she forgot how much she had missed her.
"Jo! How I've missed you," Amy cheerfully said as she started to tear up.
Laurie walked into the room and noticed Amy's beauty, why she has turned into a woman!
Amy's eyes locked with Laurie's, "If it isn't my supposed husband!"
"And my supposed wife! How are you, by God you look miraculous!" Laurie exclaimed.
"Who's this husband you talk of?" A strong raspy voice beckoned from behind Amy.
"Oh dear, this is Laurie! The one that Jo married me off to in her novel."
Jo stood in awe of the tall dark and handsome man, he was so sophisticated and so perfect for Amy, "You must be Dario, it's a pleasure to meet you. I am Jo and this is Teddy--Laurie, I mean."
Laurie nodded at Dario, who seemed to be on edge with another man in Amy's presence.
Mr. March and Marmee entered the room. Marmee looked at the two sisters lovingly, "Oh how wonderful it is to have my girls together again."
"Well, we are not all here! Where's Meg?" Amy asked.
"At her house, she just went back a few hours ago. I will alert her immediately, she has been dying to see you." Marmee replied.
"I cannot wait to see how plump she has gotten! My goodness, Jo, you and I are to become aunts! How spectacular."
"I know,' Jo replied, 'it's quite amazing how fast time flies. Speaking of passing time, where's old Aunt March?"
"You know how finicky she is, she's back at her house. She said that she was tired from her travels and needed to lay down before socializing," Amy sighed as she released her answer.
Mr. March looked at his children, "Now girls, dear Aunt March is quite old. Imagine what her body has gone through! Ships, walks, weather changes... It can be a lot for one person to endure, let alone an elderly woman."
"Well, when I am old I will still be racing Teddy across the ice! Even if it is with the help of my cane," Jo smiled as she pictured the image.
"And I will still beat you a hundred times over, even in our old age!" Laurie glanced at Jo, which was a mistake. Jo pummeled Teddy onto the couch and the two giggled with glee. The whole room lit up at the sight of the two and the joy they brought each other. Of course, everyone knew the situation, except for poor Dario.
"Are you two--ah-- married?" Dario asked curiously.
Amy's face turned beet red, as did Jo's, Laurie's, and just about everyone else's in the room. The room went silent as everyone was searching for an answer to Dario's bold, but innocent, inquiry. No one knew what to do. Jo decided to break the tension, "So, Marmee! What are we having for dinner?"
Laurie was thankful that the question was overlooked, "I should probably get going... My grandfather may want me for dinner."
"Laurie! Please stay, it has been too long since we have all been together. Invite your grandfather over with us! I would love to see him" Amy pleaded with Laurie.
"I will come with you!" Jo declared, she really just wanted to escape any further questioning from Dario.
Jo and Laurie walked out the door. They walked in silence not knowing what to say. Jo couldn't stand it any longer, "I am sorry, Laurie. I figure that Amy would have mentioned something to him--"
"Jo, it's okay. Let's just forget that it happened, remember? We agreed not to talk about it."
"You're right. I am sorry though."
"Again, it's okay," Laurie opened the door for Jo as they walked into the marvelous house.
Mr. Laurence walked down the stairs, "Hello, Josephine! How are you dear?"
"I am quite well sir, quite well."
"Grandfather, the Marches have invited us over for dinner. Amy came home for Christmas and requested that we all eat together in celebration of her homecoming."
"Marvelous! Sounds incredible. Let me get my coat," Mr. Laurence walked back up the stairs.
"She's grown up now, huh?" Jo stumbled out still in shock by Dario's question.
"Who? Amy? Yes, I guess she is," Laurie replied.
"She's beautiful now, I bet you do really wish that you ended up with her now!" Jo realized that she acted stupidly, You moron. How could you say that?!
"You know how I feel, Jo."
"I--" Jo was gratefully interrupted by Mr. Laurence.
Mr. Laurence entered excitedly, "Let's go! I am sure Hannah has prepared something spectacular."
"You're right, Mr. Laurence! I am sure that she has," Jo took Mr. Laurence's arm and walked with him to the house.
Laurie sulked behind as he dreaded the awkward evening that was upon them and he was not looking forward to it.
