Christmas Eve Part 3

Laurie was sweating, he was nervous and angry that he had to see her, I wish I would've just stayed at Harvard. Fred was right, there is no point in trying to stay in a life left behind. Stupid, Laurie. Stupid.

Mr. Laurence beckoned to his grandson, "Theodore, we are leaving. Please get the gift by the door."

"Grandfather, can I please say I am ill?" Laurie groaned.

Mr. Laurence chuckled, "Laurie, in life we must do things that are uncomfortable. There is no room to run away from your problems."

Laurie glanced at his grandfather, "Then why are you letting me flee to Europe?!"

"I would never pass on an opportunity to spend time with my grandson, I don't get much of it and I am not sure that I will get much more," Mr. Laurence said seriously.

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing, I just know there isn't much time before you go back to school-- that's all," Mr. Laurence scatteredly responded.

Laurie knew something was going on but chose not to pry, "Alright, well it will be exciting nonetheless."

There was a pause for a moment, "Well, we should get going. We wouldn't want to be late," Mr. Laurence broke the silence as he grabbed his jacket.

"Wonderful," Laurie grabbed his gloves and slipped them on his hands.

The two left and made their way over to the Marches'.

As Laurie and Mr. Laurence walked into the front door, they heard Hannah beckon "Dinner's served!"

Jo, at that moment, was angered, gladdened, and frustrated at the same time, who invited Teddy here?!

Laurie could read Jo's face, she didn't know I was coming here.

Jo ignored Laurie by greeting the both of them, she knew it would aggravate him: "Merry Christmas Eve."

Laurie's face reddened at the ignoring of his presence and remained silent, leaving his grandfather to respond to her vague address, "Thank you, Josephine. Merry Christmas Eve to you all as well, we are excited to be here-- both of us. Aren't we, Theodore?"

Laurie scrambled to find words, "Uh, yes-- we are."

Amy pushed through the door, pie in hand, "We are here! The party can finally start!"

"It's never a party without Amy here, is it?" Dario exclaimed as he kissed Amy on the cheek.

Mr. March and Marmee looked at Dario lovingly, "We had a great day today, Amy. Dario's truly such a treat, what a wonderful gift for Christmas!"

"I agree," Meg added as she nudged Amy to move so she could enter.

"He's not so bad, although I would like to presume I am still your favorite," John added as he followed behind Meg as he closed the door.

"In your dreams, Brooke," Laurie remarked.

"Now, boys, you know we have no favorites," Marmee winked at Laurie, who had always been her favorite.

Mr. March looked at the other two men, "Yes, she's right. We have no favorites. Meg, thank you for that beautiful pie."

"And you all would never believe it, but I helped with the lattice!" Amy added.

Jo descended from the staircase as she scoffed at her sister, "Ah, that's why it looks a little weird."

Amy walked over to her sister and playfully slapped her, "I still love you and wish you a Merry Christmas Eve, even if you are a crabby hermit."
