Chapter 7

The shark suddenly got closer to me. It was at that moment I realized that that's what Bella was saying. Without thinking, I quickly started swimming as fast as I could towards shore. I was about 10 feet away. The shark was less than a foot away from me. This could be my last few seconds living. Thinking about this, it made me swim faster. I knew I couldn't leave my friends. All of a sudden I feel a smooth surface on my feet. It was the shark. Then it turned around, knowing it was too close to shore, and I swam as fast as I could back. Bella and Kelley were screaming and they grabbed my hand.
"Oh my God. I am so so so sorry, Mads," Bella said.
I just laid there on the sand, out of breath.
"Yeah Maddie, are you okay?" Kelley asked, looking at Bella, and then at me.
"I'm... Fine..." I said in between deep breaths of air.
"Are you ready to go?" Bella asked.
"Yes, let's go," I said.
We got up and started to walk back to the beach house. Yes, that incident did scare me, but it's not stopping me from going in the water. Think of Bethany Hamilton. She was BIT by the shark, and still surfed. She inspires me.
We got to the door, and saw another random car in the driveway.
"Guys wait," Bella said, before we could walk in. "You know Kyle?"
"The one that's living with us?" I said with a laugh.
"Yeah. I like him. And I saw Kelley go and tell Ryan she liked him, and I need some advice," Bella said.
"Just go up to him, and flat out tell him. He probably likes you back," Kelley said.
"Okay. Thank you so much," Bella said.
We walk inside. I follow Bella up to Kyle's room so I could eavesdrop. I peek in the doorway and see Jenna - my bully Jenna - and Kyle making out.
"BELLA!" I said. She ran back to her room in tears.
"Bell-" I say, but she cuts me off.
"Just leave me alone for now please," Bella says. I close her door and walk to Chris's room.
"I almost died," I say to Chris.
"WHAT?" He looks at me with a scared and confused look.
"Well I was swimming in the ocean, and I saw this shark. You can guess what happened next," I said.
"Aw baby," Chris said. He came closer to me and kissed me. I love him.
"Thanks, Chris," I said with a giggle.
"Wanna watch a movie?" He asked.
"Yes please!" I say.
I jump on his bed and he plays the movie "The Duff". (A/N: have any of you seen that movie yet?? I have, it's my favorite movie.)
We snuggle up together and he puts the blanket over top of us. I rest my head on his chest and he plays with my hair. I look up to him, smile, and kiss him. He wraps his arms around me as he kisses me, and it turns into yet another make out session.
AFTER THE MOVIE:
"Okay Chris, I got to go talk to Bella," I say to him.
"Alright beautiful, love you," he says.
"Love you too," I got up, kissed him on the cheek and walked out his room, closing the door behind me. I walked to the door, with the sign that said, "Bella" and knocked on it gently.
"Bell? Are ya in there?" I ask in a soft voice.
"Yeah, come in," she said. Her voice sounded different from the crying. I opened the door, and saw her really pretty room. It was painted bright pink, and she had blue dressers, and a blue bed. Her TV was black with a glass drawer underneath it. Her white desk was right across from the end of her bed. She was sitting on her bed, drawing. Bella is a really good drawer.
"What-cha doing?" I ask, in a happy tone.
"Drawing," she answers.
"That's really goo-" I get cut off by someone knocking at the door.
"Bella? Are you in there?" It was Kyle.
"Sh*t! Make me pretty in 2 minutes, Maddie!" Bella whispered - screamed to me.
"Hold on Kyle! Be there in 2 minutes!" I say with a giggle.
"Okay???" Kyle says.
I run over to her desk and redo her makeup. I apply another layer of lip balm and lip gloss. While I do that, she re-straightens a few pieces of her hair. I then wiped off some of the mascara that ran down her face.
"Done!" We both said in unison. We walked over to the door and let him in.
"Hey Kyle," Bella said.
"Hey. We need to talk," Kyle said.
"I'll let you two talk," I said as I walked out the door. I looked back at Bella, and she gave me an awkward look. I closed the door for them, and sat down leaning against the door, eavesdropping. This is what I hear:
Bella: So hey.
Kyle: Hey. I know what you saw back there. Um - it's not what you think. A few years ago, she told me she had a huge crush on me. She wouldn't leave me alone. Then, I realized all this time shes been bullying Maddie. I just found out when she was in the hospital. I told Ryan and Chris that I hated Jenna, and somehow, she found out that I said that. Then, she freaked out and wanted me to love her. So she tracked me down through my phone and found out we were here. She walked into our house and found me and would not stop kissing me. She told me that if I told anyone that this happened, I would regret it. I'm not scared though, I know she's not going to do anything.
Bella: Wow. I'm so sorry that happened. But now I just embarrassed myself, now it's obvious I like you.
Kyle: Well - um - I like you too.
Bella: Really?
Kyle: Yeah, I've always liked you, to be honest.
Bella: Me too, oh my gosh.
Kyle: Well, Bella, will you be my girlfriend?
Bella: Yes!
Then I heard silence. I'm guessing theyre kissing. I decided to stand up and walk away. I go downstairs and get a granola bar from the pantry. My phone started ringing. The caller ID said it was my mom.
"Hey mom," i said.
"Hey, sweetie, I have something to tell you," she said, sniffling.
"Yeah, what is it mom?"
"Your - your brother - is dead."
