Ever since the kiss that happened between them and the mental breakdown Atsumu had after that, Atsumu started to assume Sakusa would grow cold. So, he braved himself to accept whatever treatment Sakusa would give him once he walks out of his room. But to his surprise, Sakusa was already making breakfast when he arrived at the kitchen.
"Hey," Sakusa greets when Atsumu stood beside him. Atsumu looks over at the pan and sees a meal for two, "you're making breakfast?"
Sakusa nods, "it's nothing much," Atsumu presses his lips into a thin line to suppress the smile that was showing, "okay,"
Atsumu moves to the coffee machine and prepares their coffee while Sakusa cooks, "hey, Atsumu,"
"What is it?" Atsumu doesn't turn to look at Sakusa but he freezes on his spot. He can feel his heart racing as he waits for what Sakusa's going to say.
"I was thinking," Sakusa pauses, making Atsumu's heart race faster. He wanted Sakusa to spit out whatever he wanted to say. The pause was nerve-wracking but he remains silent and patiently waits for Sakusa to continue, "I was being an ass for pushing you away all of a sudden,"
Atsumu doesn't know what to feel. He wasn't relieved nor was he happy and he couldn't understand why.
"I'm sorry," Atsumu turns to Sakusa and sees him staring at him, "I know what we have won't last long, so I wanted to at least help you. We can act like roommates,"
"Roommates," Atsumu whispers to himself. He massages his temple and nods, "okay,"
Sakusa smiles, "okay,"
Ever since then Sakusa started to help Atsumu around the house. They'd alternately cook breakfast and wash dishes before going to their separate cars to work. But during lunch, Atsumu was still the one to go to Sakusa's office and he's fine with it, at least they're better.
-*-
Atsumu leans on the wall, panting. His vision was blurry, and he couldn't walk straight as he goes out of his office to get a cup of coffee. Maybe that'll wake him up.
"Hey, Tsum-tsum!" Bokuto greets when he sees Atsumu standing by the coffee machine. Atsumu turns to him with visible bags under his eyes, "hey, Kou-kun," he smiles.
"What up with you?" Bokuto asks as he pours himself a cup of coffee. He turns to Atsumu and stares at him before placing a hand on his forehead when he sees Atsumu's flushed face, "you're sick,"
Atsumu puts his hand on his neck to feel for his temperature and groans. He still has a stack of papers waiting for him in his office. He can't get sick now, "it's fine, it's not that high,"
Bokuto shakes his head, "you need to go home. Should I call Kiyoomi and tell the boss?" Bokuto was ready to pull his phone out of his pocket when Atsumu grabs his wrist and adamantly shakes his head, "don't, you know I just got my schedule approved. I already received a warning from the boss before. If you tell him I got sick, he'll revert it back,"
"But you're pushing yourself too much. I don't know why you changed your schedule, but I think it's best if you go back to your old one," Bokuto tries to reach for his phone again, but Atsumu stops him a second time, "I promise I'll head home once I'm done,"
Bokuto looks at him with suspicion, he squints his eyes and stares straight at Atsumu, contemplating if he should believe him or not, "Atsumu, I know you,"
"I promise, Bo," Atsumu even raises his right hand as a sign of his promise. Bokuto stays quiet for a minute, "fine, but let me tell Meian, so he's aware,"
Atsumu nods, "sure, we can go to him," Bokuto leads the way to Meain's office while Atsumu trails behind him. It was difficult to walk with blurry eyesight and throbbing head, but Atsumu was too stubborn to go home. He pulled numerous all-nighters to keep the schedule he begged for nad he won't let a simple headache take it all away.
