Mood Music- Tightrope by ZAYN

Jody POV unless stated otherwise

It had been a few days since I'd spoken to Tyler, and since then, University had started, and I was already swamped with work. I guess I should've been expecting it- I mean, it's not exactly cheap and you do get a degree out of it, but I was only a few sentences into my twelve page essay before I found my attention wandering and my head throbbing with boredom. A thought immediately crossed my mind, but I tried to push it out, knowing it would be a bad idea in the short term. However, as time went on, the more it seemed like a good idea, and I became more and more tempted to bite the bullet and carry the idea through. As the clock hit 8pm, I decided enough was enough as I stood up from the breakfast bar I was sat at and headed toward the door in my pajamas and dressing gown.

"Where are you going?" Sasha asked from her position on the couch.

"Next door. I need help with Uni and no offence, but you're being useless."

"I'm not being-... okay maybe a little bit." I laughed quietly, opening the door and taking a breath before knocking on the one right next to it. The familiar face swung it open, his brows knitting at my unexpected presence, but his eyes brightening. He was happy to see me.

"Jody, hi. Can I help you, or?" I remained still for a moment, taking in his appearance. He had clearly been laying in bed or on the sofa, as his hair was mussed and his eyes droopy with sleep. He had a dressing gown on to, with black checked bottoms and a white t shirt. He made simplicity look bright and flourishing and I couldn't draw my vision away. After a moment, a sentence strung together as my brain rebooted to comprehend the situation.

"Um, no, it's fine, you were clearly sleeping, and I don't want to bother you so-"

"I wasn't sleeping, and you could never bother me," He interrupted, "so what's up?" I sighed, giving in and allowing him to know the reason I had come over in the first place.

"I'm struggling with Uni, and I was wondering if you could help. With the work, or help distract me, either way, I just need the company."

"I'd love to, but what about Sasha?"

"She's being unhelpful, thinks that because she has a steady income she doesn't need to give her time to her poor, helpless roommate." I knew she could hear me, so I exaggerated in the hopes of annoying her- our friendship was a peculiar one, but I treasured it more than anything.

Tyler smiled, his head tilting to the ground, before he stepped out of his flat, locking the door and making his way through mine and Sash's.

He sat down next to me at the breakfast bar, looking over my shoulder as I began typing on my homework. The words just weren't flowing, and it wasn't long before my head was in my hands.

"This will be the death of me." I overstated, muffled by my sleeve as I rested my head on the desk. I felt Tyler's hand rest on my shoulder, patting it as a means of affection and reassurance.

"What's this essay even on?" He questioned, making a point to read what I'd written as I sat up.

"If I knew, I wouldn't be sat here on a Friday night losing my mind over it."

"Fair point. Tell you what, why don't we go for a walk? It'll clear your head and the words will come to you in no time." I pondered his offer for a moment, although I knew it wouldn't take me long to agree- I would've done anything to get me away from that screen.

"Okay but... we're in our pajamas."

"So? You're a student, it's what they do."

"And what's your excuse?"
