Hannah reluctantly drags herself out of bed and to the bathroom, only to find it locked.
"Hurry up, Danny!" she yells. Hannah's had a consistent and throbbing migraine ever since her brother came back from college. "And get a job!" she adds, with a huff.
"Yeah, yeah, keep your panties on," he sighs, opening the door. Hannah pushes him out of the way and enters the bathroom.
"Ew, Danny! Fix your diet, your shit STINKS!" she continues nagging, even though he's long gone. She sighs, does her business, and brushes her teeth. Upon descending the stairs, she's greeted by her overbearing mother.
"Good morning, sunshine!" her mother, Joanna, puts the food down on the table and gives her daughter her daily 'mom hug' as she calls it.
"Morning, ma," Hannah half-heartedly greets. Joanna doesn't seem to notice and goes back to making breakfast, and Hannah sits down at the table.
"You know, Joanna, she's not five," her father, Dave, remarks, not looking up from his newspaper.
"I know, but a mother can pretend," she retorts with a pout, then goes back into the kitchen. This interaction makes Hannah smile. Her family is pretty typical. Mother, father, brother, and then her. Her mom is very sweet and well-meaning but can be overbearing at times, but Hannah finds it sweet how much her mother cares for her family. Her dad is that dad who tries to be cool and funny but is mostly just lame and sarcastic, but Hannah thinks it's cute how hard he tries. Her brother Danny annoys her to no end, but she's glad he's back from college because he makes things more interesting and is easy to talk to.
"Hannah," Danny pokes her with his fork.
"Ow! What?" Hannah rolls her eyes.
"Nothin'," he snickers.
"Leave your sister alone," Dave scolds, still reading his newspaper. Danny huffs in defeat.
"Ma, why don't you come and sit down? You don't have have to do everything, you know. That's what Barry is for," Hannah indicates the family butler who is currently standing around doing nothing.
"Oh, I shouldn't bother Barry. He has enough on his plate," Joanna giggles.
"I respect your wishes, Mistress Matthews," Barry says with a flat look on his face.
"Don't call me that," Joanna chuckles in a sing-songy voice. "And I will sit down in 5 minutes honey, I just need to pour the juice," Joanna says, rushing to pour. Once she's done, she gives everyone juice and sits down to eat her breakfast.
"You know dad, it wouldn't hurt for you to help mom around the house a little," Danny scolds his own father.
"It wouldn't hurt if you helped her either, Mr. unemployed philosophy major," Dave retorts, putting down his newspaper.
"Zing!" Hannah snickers. Danny just rolls his eyes.
"Hannah, you've barely touched your bacon, what's the matter?" Joanna asks, concerned.
"Nothing, ma, just tired, beginning of the school year and all that," Hannah sighs, picking at her food.
"Oh. Well, you should hurry, you're going to be late," Joanna rushes her. Hannah looks at the clock and panics, scarfing down the rest of her food and running upstairs to get dressed. She opens up her massive closet and looks through her clothes.
"Too bad I can't wear any of it," she rolls her eyes and takes out her private school uniform. Hannah's family lives in Felville, a planned community for wealthy businessmen and women, and she attends the prestigious Felville Academy, and so did her brother before her.
