Soon she heard the heavy breathing of an old man behind her. He was getting closer by the second, his feet sounded like lead as he stormed across the seemingly endless grassy field. At this point, she couldn't feel her legs, and only pure adrenaline kept her going. As for the man, he was tiring quickly, and would soon give up. He was already thinking about how he would return empty-handed and say, she was killed by an ant, or something equally likely.Stumbling, she lost her balance and fell with a small thump. At this point they were half-way within the ants territory. It was very likely that they would be found and ripped to shreds, but both were too tired to remember this. The man grabbed the small child, who was trying to catch her breath. His sweaty palms left imprints on her now dirty grey dress. Grunting, he heaved her up and started dragging her back to the lake. Suddenly, the girl started to scream.
"Help me! Please! Goddess of nature, please save me!" she howled, her voice going to a pterodactyl pitch. For several seconds, nothing happened, as the man nervously paused to see if anything would happen. Then, when nothing immediately did, he laughed and clamped down on her shoulder harder.
"Goddess of nature, earth, anything! If you can hear me, save me, please! I beg of you, high ones, save me from this fate!" She prayed and sobbed, her voice raising higher, and higher. This time, there was a reply to her pleas.
