"Here we go." says Christians mom. They let me stay the night and I was staying downstairs on the couch. His parents thought it would be more suitable. I just think it's cuz the believe we would do something inappropriate upstairs in his room.
"Thanks." I say. She smiles and walks upstairs.
"So what's up?" Christian asks when he is sure that his mom is no longer in ear shot. I sit down on the couch and bring up a blanket. I shrug. "Naomi what happened?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean why were you in New York? I know you went there before your parents so it couldn't have been a camping trip. And your dad is strick so he wouldn't let two guys that weren't related to you go. Why aren't you with your family? They are struggling with loss too, you shouldn't push them away."
"I can't deal with all the sadness that is going through my family." I say. He gets up and sits next to me.
"Naomi they are just as upset as you are. You shouldn't push away the people you need most in your life. You should stay with your family, you will get through this better if you do."
"People cope in different ways." I say avoiding his gaze all this time.
"Naomi look at me." he says. I don't look, I keep my gaze on my fidgeting hands. He then puts one hand on mine and cups the other around my chin. He then turns my head slowly so I am looking at him. "Why were you in New York?" I look into his eyes and see curiosity and concernness in them.
"I can't tell you." I manage to say softly.
"Why?" Christian asks. "Naomi are or were you in some sort of trouble?" I let out a small laugh. There are tears in my eyes though. He wipes away a tear that was making its way down my cheek.
"Christian I can't tell you without having you think I'm crazy." I finally say after a moment of silence.
"I won't think you're crazy, I promise."
"You don't understand what you are promising." I say. I can't tell him that I'm a demigod. That Greek and Roman mythology is true. That my father is Hades, ruler of death and riches. He will definitely think I've lost my mind!
"You're my friend and I trust you." he says. His face and eyes says that he means it full heartily. I take a deep breath and prepare to jump into the story. When I hear a roar, and I mean a loud growling roar. I stand up fast and reach shove my hand in my pocket. I close my hand around the gift my father Hades gave me. My rock that transforms into a spear.
"What was that?" asked Christian appalled.
"You heard the roar too?" I ask. He looks at me dumbfounded.
"Of course I heard it. I'm not deaf!" he says. Of course that's not what I meant when I asked. I asked because mortals usually see and hear things differently than demigods.
"I'm going to check it out. Wait here." I say while slipping on my shoes. He stands up and grabs his shoes as well. "What are you doing?"
"I'm not letting you go out there alone! What kind of friend do you think I am?" he says getting up. "I'm going with you, end of story."
"Fine." I say because I know how he can be once he sets his mind on something.
We walk to the door. My hand still clutch to my weapon. Christian walking right next to me. He didn't seem to realize the dangers that that roar can bring, and I brought it here.
I look out the window that's next to the door but am unable to see much. I step back and take shaky breath as I turn the nob and pull open the door.
I step outside and walk cautiously towards the driveway. The dark night setting was light up with the few night lamps. I look up and down the street. Nothing. I let out a sigh. A little to soon did I feel relief.
I'm not going to have Christian and Naomi date. They are just Friends nothing more.
I do have a question though. Should I make Christian a Roman demigod or just a mortal that can see through the mist??? Please let me know.
