Megan

They moved me back to b-block. They said it was routine. Beyoncé couldn't intimidate them into leaving me with her.

My face is hot as I wanted to see Beyoncé hours before leaving. Now there's no telling when I'll see her again.

I sit on the cot, less than a week away from release day.

I keep to my area of the cell as my cell mate tattoos herself. She's chill but she's not Beyoncé.

"Ladies." I hear at the door.

It's Higgins. He might be the one other person I'm relieved to see. He lets us know we're going to the yard for excersize, which honestly is just standing around by the fence and passing balls and judgement. I get more enthusiastic when I overhear chatter about Beyoncé's block being there.

The walk in line is relatively chill. Everybody gossips as usual but I need to see Beyoncé. No question about it.

The bright ass sun stings my eyes un-expectantly and the heat agitates my arms and face. I'm just focused on finding Beyoncé. I at least need to have her add me as a mailer so my letters can get to her.

I'm shoved to the empty part of the fenced in property and scan until I see her. She sits with her back against it, head down and her arms keeping the sun away. Either that's her way of shading from the sun or she's upset.

"Bey-bey." I call out in front of her.

She looks up with red eyes and a pink nose. Damn.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I bend to her level. "Tell me."

"I'm sorry I was hard headed and ain't wanna talk to you, Megs."

"Awe, it's okay." I say. "But I'm worried. Feel comfortable telling me?"

"I just- - you really leavin' on me." Her thick voice cracks.

Had you told me that Beyoncé would be breaking down before I would leave this prison, I would've laughed in your face.

"Hey, I'm not gonna leave you, Bey...." I find my voice crackin' as well. "Not after these past few months."

She looks up at me and my heart breaks further seeing her red eyes.

"Promise me you won't take nothin else for granted anymore once you go out, 'kay?"

I nod. I literally got woken up by the police in my sleep unexpectedly, she doesn't have to tell me twice.

"And have fun."

"Maybe you'll get out soon so we can both hang out and do shit."

She nods, "Course, Megan." She says. "Have fun for the both of us, promise me."

"Course, baby."

I hold her close and she finishes crying into my shoulder.

Some other inmates walk by us and heckle.

"Ooouuu, Beyoncé and her bo-"

I look up and scowl and they run off.

I love Beyoncé so fucking much.

My hold on her slowly gets tired as she has one of those ugly cries that shakes your body.

I get past the cells and change into the pajamas I had on when I got here. Higgins walks up to me and crosses his arms.

"How can I keep in touch with Beyoncé?"

"You should have told her to add you to a call list."

"Can I go ba--"

"No."

"Can you--"

"I am not a messenger, you should've figured that out before." She bends down and speaks to me with his nasty ass coffee breath. "Besides prison relationships are just flings. Move on. Go home get you a--"

I've already completed the things I needed to do upon discharge so I push him out of my way and stomp out. I want to get pissed, but there's nothing I can do. I should've said something to Beyoncé.

Before I get to the parking lot a hand stops me and it's Kehlani with her baby.

"Hey, boo."

The baby lifts her arms towards me.

"My Princess."

"She missed her auntie. I missed you too."

"Me too, Lani." I say as I carry Lilith in my arms.

She rests her head on my shoulder and I bring Kehlani into my arms. Feels so good to be out.

"C'mon, we're taking you out to eat." She pulls me to the parking lot. "Wanna buckle Lili in?"

"Sure."

My mind is just focused on how I'm gonna get Beyoncé back.
