It's always nice to have people come into the facility, new faces that we rarely get to see around.

It's like a breeze of fresh air whenever we see Tony Stark or Natasha Romanoff stopping by.

Unfortunately, today, neither of them were able to, I sat on the front desk eating my lunch in silence.

Now and then, throwing food at Barry, my golden retriever.

I would peek over to watch whoever came inside the building with a little hope that it would be somebody new.

A tall man with a blue cap and sunglasses entered looking around before locking eyes with me.

His lips moved but there wasn't any sound attached to it. The world is silent for me.

What many people don't know is that we strengthen our other senses, if I can't hear you, I will make sure to see you.

I've become great at reading lips, it's like breathing for me but I've been advised to have a hearing dog anyways which is why I keep Barry around. In case of something I can't see, like an alarm.

The man moved his lips once again, this time approaching the desk.

"Do you know where I can find Nick Fury?"

"Oh right, he's not here at the moment but from what I was told, he won't be gone for long."

"Okay, I'll wait for him. That's a nice-looking dog."

He was talking about Barry and he wasn't wrong. Barry was a beautiful golden retriever who sat tall and proud next to me with his vest announcing he was working.

"Yeah he truly is, he helps in any way that he can."

"Is he yours?"

I chuckle softly before answering, "Yeah he is, he's my hearing dog. His name is Barry."

"A hearing dog?"

"I'm actually deaf, but reading lips always does the job."

His mouth dropped in astonishment, crossing his arms and leaning on the counter with a smile.

"That's impressive, truly impressive. What's your name?"

"Um I'm Y/n and you are?" I push a strand away from my face as I lowered it to cover my sudden blushing.

"Steve, Steve Rogers."

"You're Captain America, how did I not recognize you?" It hit me a few seconds before he told me his name, the blonde hair hidden under his cap and his ocean blue eyes.

"I'm sorry but I can't get over the fact you can't hear me but still manage to communicate without sign language." He confessed timidly as he placed his hands inside his pockets.

"It's okay, usually people have a bigger reaction, you're doing very well at keeping it cool."

He laughed at my comment, and looked at me for a hot minute. It looked like he was spacing out, but he somehow manage to speak after that.

"You're amazing. Seriously, you're inspiring. More people should be like you."

"What? Deaf?"

"No that's not what I mea-

"I'm joking, but thank you. I try my best." I teased jotting down numbers on a sticky note.

"You're great...uh...I mean yes you're doing great." He blushed taking a few steps back.

Nick entered through the halls without a single glance towards Steve and I.

"Follow me. Make sure you finish those numbers." He was stern as usual, ordering everyone around.

Steve gave me a smile before he disappeared into a hallway with Nick Fury leading the way.

After Steve left, I found myself looking over at Barry to find some sort of relief from all the numbers in front of me.

Barry only slept and looked up at me hoping for some attention. He began wagging his tail as soon as Steve came into view.

"You're such a good boy," He giggled as the dog accepted happily his pets and kisses.

Steve rose from his knees with a nervous look on his face, almost like wanting to hide.

"Uhm...I-I'm sorry I was wondering if you would like to go out for some coffee?"

The request was shocking, Captain America wanted to grab coffee with me.

"Uh yes...yes...I would love to. When?"

"Anytime, honestly, maybe if you can tommorow. I can pick you up at 10."

"Sounds great." I bit my lip trying to hold back the excitement.

"It's a date?"

"Yes, it's a date." He smiled waving goodbye as he exited the building.
